I used to get that at the place with elk horns stacked up as their doorway in Derby at the intersection of Rt 5.

3rd type: alternating. Generally I grab a couple of fries to start, then start in on the burger, then some more fries, burger. Generally I’ll finish the burger first and “fill up” with the fries. About the only time I don’t alternate is if it’s a really messy burger I don’t trust to maintain structural integrity through multiple pick ups and put down. Then it’s some fries, all the burger, fill up.
Ketchup always goes on the side to dip. Soggy fries or onion rings suck, that’s why I don’t do chili fries or poutine. Chili goes with on hot dogs or with cornbread and gravy goes with mashed potato’s.
why cant they use decent buns?
I was always the third kind.
Take a bite or two from the burger and then eat a handful of fries. Repeat.
Full disclosure: I’m not really a big fan of fries.

IIRC that scene was totally improvised and they left it in.
Some of the burgers I have no bun can handle. One of my favorites is at a local place the chorizo sunrise. Got a green chili, chorizo, sunny up egg, pepper jack, and avocado sauce. Delicious, but falls out the sides, and juices the heck out of it. I remember when Red Robin had the burger diapers, paper wrapped around the burger with one end sticking out. Brilliant invention, keep those mega burgers manageable.

Why can’t they put the burger in the center of the bun, that has mystified me for years. Along with putting the fries in the bag upside dow. Just can’t find good help. Also, when I ask the drive thru person for two ketchups, why does he/she give me 10?
kaiser is the only burger roll.
