I'm usually not a cheerleader for police but in this case it is inarguable that this Florida Highway Patrol officer acted heroically by using her own car to stop a raging drunk from killing no end of people at a nearby running race. Trooper Toni Schuck demonstrated the selfless virtue of sacrifice and could have died in order to protect innocent lives from an unrepentant drunk.
Bravo Trooper Toni Schuck!!!

Ballsy move and smart to basically stop in front of him. Freeway headons are about as bad as a TC can get.

I'm sure that this trooper was hoping for a better attack angle than what turned out, but such is the nature of this sort of chaos. She did the right thing at great cost to herself, and accomplished the mission.
I don't know what the driver of the intruding car was thinking; alcohol was a contributing factor, but the rest... who knows? If this driver had not been stopped, we don't even want to imagine what sort of damage would have been done if she managed to plow into crowds of runners.
Civilization is a fragile thing, and technology is often far too much of a force multiplier when someone just goes ballistic. As our society has lost its penchant for self-control, these events become more and more frequent.

Well, I bet that was a rush! She will never have to stay at a HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS to prove her worth. Can you imagine twenty years from now, "but I did let a drunk driver slam head on at high speed into me to save the lives of hundreds runners."
For a great many years I've been hung up on identifying and respecting true altruism, with no element of self aggrandizement. As President Reagan recognized in one of his SOTU speeches, Lenny Skutnik was one. I still burst out in sobs when I think of him. Now we can add Toni Schuck to the list!!!

No mention of the status of the drunk driver?
Likely DOA, but who knows?

“Accused DUI driver who crashed into Florida trooper laughs in first court appearance”
If you paste the above in youtube, there is a video of the driver laughing at her court appearance.
Fyi, the trooper is recovering at home.

Yes, she was a brave woman, however, she used her patrol car, not her personal car, to stop the drunk woman.

In the future when you need the police, please do not call them. Enjoy the results.

I was just reading about this. Quick thinking and brave. She got hurt pretty bad in the crash I guess.

Here is a link to article and video on WND - the video played:

Was the trooper behaving in a truly altruistic manner? Hm, let me think. If her job is to help others and prevent mayhem, then she was acting in her own best interests and logically according to her values. I’m sure she would never have forgiven herself for letting Drunk Gal kill a bunch of people. And, you know, she likely would at the very least have got passed up for a promotion.
What a nasty crash! She literally only had a second or two to decide how to act.
