Brian is criticized for not letting his own band members play the music. But he was influenced by Phil Specter and knew it could be better and much, much better it was.
Ironically, Glen replaced him for 6 months when he just took a time out one year.
Kudos to Brian for making it as great as it could be.
Wrecking crew definitely should be in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame
Hal Blaine is in the RRHOF. Not sure about Tommy Tedesco. He ought to be. The whole Wrecking Crew ought to be in.
Magical!
Actually Papa Doo Run Run band does the Beach Boys better than the Beach boys.
Well, at least Leon Russell is in the Hall. His glowing comments about Brian in that video are indicative of Wilson’s unique stature in the pantheon of the greats of popular music. To hear Russell, who is a musical genius in his own right, point to Brian and say it doesn’t get better than him means something.
BTW, “crew” guitarist Bill Pitman is now 102. He too was an incredible talent — an absolute ace on guitar. Yet he’s also famous for downplaying the music that the WC played on, saying that all of it was junk including the likes of Pet Sounds. It was just a job to him, and he never cared for any of the music. And that’s fine. A contrary voice is a healthy thing.
“Why aren’t Carol and Glen in the RRHOF?”
Definitely!!!
To this day, “Mr. Tambourine Man” (the album) remains a classic masterpiece for that period and the introduction of McGuinn’s “jangly 12-string” guitar sound.
Produced, IIRC, by Terry Melcher, son of Doris Day and previous occupant of the house Sharon Tate & friend were murdered.
Living in Hollywood at the time was quite an experience for a kid & his girlfriend from Ohio.
To this day I haven’t been able to make my 30 year old nephew understand what a “jingle jangle morning” is! :-)

We've all had a few of them - some more than others. Takes me back to College Ave. at PSU. I had a few there for sure.
Did they play music?
Were you one of this group? Your Father one of this group? What is your connection to this group?
I despise thread crashers. Shame on me . . .
You’re good.
Also realize that on a lot of the popular Hair Metal band songs from the 80s, most of the solos were played by studio artists, and not the band members. You could always tell because their live solos tended to suck versus the studio versions.
