I agree——I’m going to look into prepaying the taxes and penalty up front as to get it out of the way. I will be calling my plan provider today——

You can purchase shock tablets, at pool supply stores.
These can be chipped off/powdered, to make a gal of bleach, at a time.
They have to be stored in glass mason jars, with plastic screw tops, after opening ea tablet, though.
We’ve been prepping for years. WE did move farther out, but many of these sudden converted suburbanites have followed us, unfortunately. Still feel surrounded by Karens. We continue to stock ammo.
We’re working hard on a garden this year — just started bunches of seedlings. We have about 2 months of food preps. ‘
I’ve been begging my husband for a wood stove. think we’re ok this season, but if all this continues, the WH Vegetable will have us freezing in the dark by next winter.
We want to start chickens, but are working overtime towards retirement. Sometimes I don’t know why, as these murderous progressives will take it all from us someday somehow.
Honestly I just want to prep spiritually more than anything. Get myself right with God, as I doubt any of this will end well, even for those of us who prepared. The world that will be left will not be one that will be too much fun to live in.
More than ever, I just appreciate the time i have now with my husband, family and friends.

At your age of 54, the removal of money from a 401k is going to hurt for a long time. First, your age ensures significant penalties. Second, the IRS gets first cut and it’s deep. I did a withdrawal after penalties were no longer in play and the tax hit was painful. If I can swing it, I’m going for only the Required Minimum Distribution that kicks in at 70-1/2.
for all the debate here on FR about residential solar power, and those ready ready to deride it ... we will have power, day and night, (we have solar batteries) and it’s silent.
Freezers and fridges, including the wine fridge, will be fine.
In a prior home we had the big backup LP Generac. While it was fairly quiet running, it was far from silent. When the power was out, the neighbors (and we inside) could hear it.
There might be times when you don’t want that.
We're also moving from a blue state to a red state with a longer growing season and lower cost of living.
We are expanding our gardens and growing more of our own food.
We've been accumulating gold and silver, mostly junk but more and more valuable everyday.
Most importantly, we've worked on our mindset as well as expanding our MAG - Mutual aid group. AmericanContingency.com has been a great resource and our local group continues to grow.
Bugging out is being a refugee. Unless you can get to a remote location quickly. Road blocks confiscation of supplies, weapons and ammo by state and federal authorities or even local people. I’m in a semi rural location. I would rathe bunker in. Having the locals shooting at any invaders is a plus.
I can’t see my family (from 25-80 years of age) going on the road. Not doable.
The chance of complete social breakdown is limited in rural areas IMHO. Short of a full scale nuclear exchange or bio weapons with 30-50+ percent death rate it just won’t happen.
I have been wrong about many things and could be wrong again. I don’t see long term survival out in the open as viable. Can’t carry enough calories.

For folks who live in colder climates, a wood stove is the ultimate insurance policy if the power goes out during the winter.
It is getting kinda obvious that the US days of counting on reliable electricity are coming to an end—the Democrats are determined to bring our standard of living down to third world levels.

I completely agree, EXCEPT after some disaster scenarios.
Right after a disaster (Huricane katrina style), power outage, civil unrest it is more dangerous to move than to stay put. There are situations (fall-out) where it may make sense to shelter in place for 3 - 30 days before moving on. The zombies will be out on the streets, or it’s just dangerous to be outside (dust/fallout)...
Point: Also have a plan for days of bordom where you’re sheltering in place. Some folks itch to “do something” or they go crazy when shelting.
Basically either a home-made or commercially-made oven that uses the sun to cook your food.
Conditioning my mind and body for the inevitable forced diet of less calories (milk, bread, coffee, flour, sugar, fruits and vegetables). You know, the basic food staples.
However, I suspect while many Americans will be struggling to obtain the minimum necessary caloric intake, our betters in government will ensure that there is still a healthy supply of alcohol, marijuana, heroin, crack, meth and fentanyl available at affordable prices along with an endless supply of government provided syringes and crack pipes. Perhaps they will even allow people to purchase illicit drugs and alcohol with their food stamps.
