If you can survive the first 6 months of an apocalyptic crisis, there will be a sudden increase in the availability of food and supplies due to decreased competition.

Harsh reality.

I see your point but the fact is, it’s easier said than done. Only a certain percentage of people will be able to do it.

Don’t do it, the withdrawal, it’s tempting but I’d advise against that. Same boat here 2 remaining parent it keeping us in this state. We are looking to move to Tennessee. I’d buy land and build later.

You contact the 401k plan and tell them to write you a check.

They will do it and notify the IRS of the transaction.

The penalty will be due when you file your next tax return.

Everyone’s situation is different, buy my life experience is that people often confuse what is difficult with what is impossible.

One way to overcome that is to make a “wish” plan—that exercise will get you looking hard at what is preventing the move and what can be done to address those issues.

“I hope it’s all for nothing.”

I know what you mean, here, but it’s NEVER all for nothing!

‘what if?’ plans. (water/ heat)

I thought about that when I read about the frozen meat. A freezer full would be a lot of meat to eat when it thaws.

Part of my stocks consist of #10 cans of dehydrated meat, cheese and milk powder I bought12 years ago during Obama! I imagine it’s still edible but not too tasty? Opened a can of dry chicken a few years ago and that was the case.

More recently: LOTS of rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, peanut butter, bleach (water purification).

Not for me or my household. When the turmoil comes there will be those in need and as a Christian, a soldier for the Lord, I cannot and will not flee when others suffer or are unable help themselves. I will stand with the suffering for as long as I am able. In Jesus name I pray this calamity never comes to pass but if it does I couldn’t live with myself if I fled while others wept and suffered.

Accumulate propane tanks. I have 4, and they all look very spiffy because Amerigas gave me nice shiny new ones for ratty rusty old ones.

Me local Walmart is half a mile away. Amerigas has a robot automated gas bottle dispenser outdoors. You put in your old 20LB propane and they give you a new one. Of course you must pay $19 for a filled up new tank/ You have ratty old propane tanks? Trade them in at Amerigas! Or your local robot equivalents.

I have an MBA, but I never liked the “financial advisor” types because there are two key facts they always miss:

(1) A profit or gain on paper is not a profit or gain—until you cash it in....

(2) Your peace of mind/happiness is worth at least a billion dollars imho—making financial decisions that make you wealthier on paper while keeping you from being happy now are a losing proposition.

In addition to storing 6 months worth of Food Supplies and having plenty of ammunition I have an 18 month supply of my heart medicine. We live in a small town about 12,000 people which is in a County of about 50,000. I have no bug out plans. I’m 70 years old, we are going to make it here or we are not.

One of the things that frustrates me are the items that simply cannot be stored long-term. Bleach for example.

Interesting thing to try and understand here is that if things go that far sideways, you have to realize that no matter what you do there are far more things that will go wrong than right. It’s the nature of the universe. There is no substitute for good luck as a portion of your prepping.

Good post—the perfect is the enemy of the good.

You do what you can—and then relax.
