TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Senate passed a voting law package Friday that was pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and would create a police force dedicated to pursuing election crimes.
The chamber approved the bill on a party lines vote with nearly all Republicans in support. House lawmakers are considering companion legislation.
DeSantis, a Republican, proposed the need for an election police unit last year, citing unspecified allegations of fraud that have gained traction in parts of the GOP following former President Donald Trump's false claims that his reelection was stolen.
The governor, who is running for reelection and considered a potential 2024 presidential challenger, has both praised Florida's 2020 Election as smooth and said more rules are needed to prevent wrongdoing. Voter fraud is rare and generally detected. There is consensus among election officials and experts that there was no fraud that could have impacted results in the last presidential election.
“What are we really afraid of here?” Sen. Travis Hutson, a Republican sponsoring the bill, asked lawmakers Friday after a short debate. “Are we afraid of our elections being too secure?”
The bill would create an Office of Election Crimes and Security under the Department of State to review fraud allegations and conduct preliminary investigations. The governor would be required to appoint a group of special officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement who would be dedicated to pursuing the election law violations.

NBC keeps using the phrase “false claims”. More proof of their fake media!
nice but I would have concerns that the eff bee eye could infiltrate the police force management
“What are we really afraid of here?” Sen. Travis Hutson...”
Maybe the effects of millions of “Zuck’s Bucks” in swing states? Like the Green Bay, Wisconsin polls run by a guy from the Bronx?
Oh what a wicked web we weave.
DeSantis bttt
Methinks the ladies at NBC doth protest too much.
In my opinion, election crime is a capital offense.
One of the reason there are so few prosecutions, is the same people who are elected control the people who are supposed to investigate election crimes.
This is one of the biggest reasons for corruption in large cities. The politicians control the police, and there is little check on them. In jurisdictions where the peace officers (law enforcement) are controlled by direct election (sheriff office), there is a possibility for independent checks.
I know Florida is the greatest state in the Nation, with the best ever Governor to ever get elected. I know we have the greatest beaches, shelling, housing, etc.,, But please, please stop moving here! We’re full. Thanks. Go somewhere spacious like California!!!

Any wonder why the Networks ran for the hills once Putin announced that Fake News would now be illegal?
Manila rope manufacturers are thrilled at the prospect.
Grand theft and assault are also "generally detected" and the Democrats do nothing about that either.
It sounds wonderful now, with DeSantis in office. But it could break really bad with a RAT as governor in the future. Also, even more it could be a problem depending on who is heading up the force.
I agree. Any convicted of vote fraud should be publicly hanged. In my opinion vote fraud is sedition, maybe even treason against the USA. These people are actively undermining the country with what they do.
I have a brother that has lived in Florida for going on 30 years. He & his wife are both left-wing wackos but, by virtue of his long-term FL residence, I feel I’m grandfathered under the anchor-brother rule should I ever want to move there.
Manned by police union members? :)
