Western film icon Sam Elliott is being spit-roasted online after railing on Jane Campion’s 12-time Oscar-nominated drama “The Power of the Dog” for including “allusions to homosexuality” and other LGBTQ themes.
The “1883” actor dropped the shocking bombshell during a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s “WTF Podcast,” Entertainment Weekly reported.
“You want to talk about that piece of s – – t?” the 77-year-old “Tombstone” star sputtered when asked for his thoughts about the provocative Netflix movie, which is a contender for the Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards.
For the uninitiated, the much-praised “The Power of the Dog” stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a closeted gay rancher in 1925 Montana who’s abusive toward his new sister-in-law and her son.
...
“That’s what all these f – – king cowboys in that movie looked like,” the Oscar nominee ranted. “They’re all running around in chaps and no shirts. There’s all these allusions to homosexuality throughout the f – – king movie.”

I have no idea when this movie hit Netflix, because it’s clear that its algorithm knew I wouldn’t care to see it. Never appeared in Popular or Trending. Nowhere. I had to search for it just now.
I put it on just for shiggles. Obscure story, fractured plot, rooted in rural pre-Depression West, all about a pair of brothers from a well-to-do family, one a man for the business of ranching, the other an adherent to the range (and his stank).
“Love story” my ass: She becomes a drunkard, mother of the only ‘gay-ish’ character, married to one brother. The other, jealous & smitten with his brother’s wife (and teasing of her gay-ish son, simultaneously trying to make a MAN of him).
It’s a dismal film - HARDLY Oscar worthy, and no gay theme. There was a single scene of cowboys frolicking in a stream, and one of the ‘gay-ish’ boy finding a stash of 20’s ‘risque’ photo magazines in an abandoned shed, coupled with a quick take to the boy watching the stank brother washing in a stream (and getting caught)...
...but then it goes off the rails at about 1:50, soon learning that the writer’s intent was that the stank brother was not smitten with the mother, but the gay-ish boy, and he with him.
Had cowboy stank not succumbed to disease, it would have been a ‘grooming’ film.
I knew what to expect; I can only imagine it would have angered me as it did Elliott, had I not known.
It is truly a ‘piece of s—t,’ characteristic of pedophilia-prone Hollyweird and the closet abuse of boys by gay men.
He’s right it’s an awful movie
What man beat Jane Campions ass as a kid
Or didn’t ask her to prom or homecoming....whatever they do where she’s from
She does present cool texture though on film ....
The life-cycle of a Hollywood star:
1. "Who's Benedict Cumberbatch?!"
2. "Get me Benedict Cumberbatch!"
3. "Get me someone like Benedict Cumberbatch!"
4. "Benedict Cumberbatch... Is he still alive?"
Regards,
Is that what you folks in the linen manufacturing sector always say?
Regards,
Sam Elliot is not a friend. He’s rabidly anti-conservative and has been for years.
BHS: “I’m an artist. I appreciate much more from art than a single viewed dark ages view.”
A polite way of saying that, comparatively, you are a subhuman and BHS is enlightened and elite and has an opinion that should rule over your life.
Because...muh artiste.
We did the same years ago with her movie The Piano. Sigh
Just because he is wrong on some things does not mean he can’t be right on this
.
Go Sam, go.
“and other LGBTQ themes.”
It’s also infuriating how the ‘Gaystopo’ has commandeered whole parts of the alphabet as though it owns it.
Which is why they’ve gone insane over Let’s Go Brandon aka the first three letters of that: LGB
It’s time someone commented on that…
Well, I cut the cord a while back and don’t watch regular tv or most cable stuff, so I don’t know the story lines. He will have a hard time getting work, if he still wants to work.
It was a creepy film. The “hero” uses a bioweapon, anthrax, to kill his enemy.
One of the best actors and voices of all time. He knew he would get the treatment.
LOL! Yes, that would be in-character!
It doesn’t matter, 1883 was a one off and is done.
Stop the namecalling. Take your cheap insults somewhere they are liked.
Spoiler alert for the below comment in case you didn’t watch 1883......
FYI: Sam Elliot cancelled himself from the show in the last episode (shot himself on the beach in Oregon).
I’m not saying that at all. You are putting words in my mouth.
I’m saying I love the artistry of certain movies.
Do you watch movies about murders? Or people who commit adultory? Or other bad acts? Mafia perhaps like the great movie The Godfather?
Does that mean you support those things? Those acts? Of course not.
I don’t understand how the discussion of Sam Elliott’s opinion of this movie turned into attacking me and misrepresentation of me.
I read Gone With the Wind as a child. Loved the book. Doesn’t mean I’m a supporter of civil war or the KKK. See how ridiculous your arguments are?
FR has gone off the deep end.
Really, the Word says to love the sinner but hate the sin. You want us to celebrate the sin or you are an evil person. Take your cheap insults where they belong.
Knock it off buddy.
