The Boston accent was ranked as the most annoying in the U.S., according to a new survey, but it also ranked among the top 10 smartest and sexiest.
Preply, a Brookline-based online language learning platform, took a survey of more than 1,700 people across the country on the most loved and hated accents. The Boston accent came out on top as the most annoying, followed by the Midwestern accent.
When it comes to the sexiest accent, Boston ranked number six out of 10. The top spot was taken by the southern accent.
Boston also came in sixth place for the most trustworthy accent. The Midwestern accent took the number one spot for trustworthiness.
Bostonians scored higher for sounding smart, coming in at number four, with the New York accent taking the top spot.
PBD…fast.
I moved from being born in and living in/near Boston —— to NJ. So what has that done to me?
LOL! Good one!
You gotta problem with that?

About the only worthwhile thing the NYTimes has ever done:

Answer 25 linguistic and vocabulary questions, and it will tell you where your dialect is from.
It nailed me - I’m from Syracuse, NY, originally
Got it. But since you are listed as being from Florida, I’d assumed...well. Got it.
Ha..there’s a scene in Jaws where there’s
an Amity town meeting taking place and one voice heard is definitely a Kennedy accent, sounded like Ted. The movie was filmed ironically enough on “the Vin-yahd.
Once I heard Sean Hannity on his radio
show saying early on he was doing a show based in Atlanta I believe, then he went national—”and I was advised to get rid of my ‘Noo Yawk’ accent if I wanted to go
national.”
NY type “cor-fee” accents are heard in RI. CT native Seth Macfarlane gives Peter Griffin a RI accent on Family Guy.
The mid-Atlantic accent (NY, NJ, Philly) pops up on the Sopranos.
Have heard people claim it’s “Meffa” but at least here on the (nearby) North Shore of Boston we say “MED-fidd”. Like “BED-fidd”. Up in Maine, BIDDA-fidd
The first time I ever traveled, I was 16, and people kept asking me to say Boston, and then they would laugh at me. I was in Florida.
I did not understand. Years following, I wised up.
New York accent takes top slot for sounding smart? No way!
The Boston accent is awesome, it is a lot like the New York accent, not the NYC one but up North where people work for a living. It is especially interesting if it is spoken by those of Italian heritage. Know what I’m talkin’ about YO? These guys used the term “aight” before the brahs did. So black people culturally appropriated it, along with YO.

Yeah, but NYers stole it from the Italians in Philly.
