Anti-capitalism is flooding TikTok as young people question a life that prioritizes productivity over well-being
In a TikTok video with 1.8 million views, a user who goes by the name Rama beams at the camera.
"Like many young adults, I used to want an enjoyable and meaningful life," Rama says with a smile, "that is, until I discovered capitalism.
"Now, I live in a society where my productivity matters more than my well-being, and so I'm just depressed and anxious all the time. I'm smiling, but I'm deeply wounded. I work three jobs, and I still feel like I'm not doing enough."
Anti-capitalism is taking over TikTok as users like Rama denounce America's glorification of the rat race. The pandemic prompted many American workers to rethink their life's purpose, and the youngest among them are questioning a life that endlessly pursues the next accomplishment.

Ever occur to these numbskulls that being productive contributes to well-being?
Seeing as to how we know have the highest concentration of wealth in the fewest hands in all of recorded history, it would surprise me if most of them weren’t communists by now. It’s the expected backlash one expects from the uncontrolled excesses of capitalism.
Hmmmm, I think capitalism is a better solution to prioritizing well being over productivity than communism, or socialism.
Bkmk for later study.
Hmmm... Seems like they used to be kinda codependent. I can't help but wonder how their "well-being" feels when its entirely dependent on someone else's largess or more likely coercion. Must be just wonderful being a member of the Young Looters Society.
The thing is the Soviet Union and Mao’s China both relied heavily on slave labor.
Fools. Unproductive people have no morale and go crazy and get sick. One of the great lies is that work is bad. You want insanity? Visit any welfare district.
“Young people don’t know much.”
Old people sometimes don’t either. While capitalism is great in principle, it is also destructive when big business is only focused on profits.
Take Amazon for instance, workers are peeing in bottles because they get no real breaks. Working under crazy time pressures and impossible schedules for barely a living wage. It’s owner is worth 200 billion (only because of a divorce). Amazon is not small at over a 1,000,000 employees.
But this isn’t rare, only 45% of people are happy with their job. Workplace participation has fallen every year. Less people want to work and the ones that do, want to change jobs.
America’s work force has the least amount of free time out of all developed countries. Sure America is the land of opportunity and a great country, but the reality is 55% of the people are not happy with their jobs and big business is part of the problem. And yes, I understand there is no easy solution to the problem.
And by the way, I know the youth today are lazy, unhappy with everything, and really don’t know what they want. My daughter’s boyfriend gets great over 100k jobs and starts looking for a new one in months, crazy.
Oh I personally have never been a fan of communism or any enforced collectivism by the State. I just think our own elites have abandoned the people’s economic interests by encouraging mass immigration, selling out to China, and doing nothing to enforce our laws against predatory monopolies, thus screwing over the common man in favor of the big tech elites and others. The American dream is becoming less and less attainable for our young people and I can see how they could easily be misled into some commie fantasy in the future.
Maybe Arthur Jensen was right:
“And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there’s no war or famine, oppression or brutality — one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused.”
Communism works great in a family where the mother and father share everything with their children.
But it does not work in general when the government forces you to share everything with your neighbor.
A bunch of spoiled kids trying to sound smart
Move to Russia, commie!
True.
What a bunch of weenies....
Yes and most communist countries had to learn that the hard way. But those lessons may be forgotten in the decade ahead unless something is done about the great disparity in wealth.
When people elect politicians to restrain what they think of as capitalism, those politicians carefully avoid Amazon and Exxon-Mobil and pass laws that do harm to Joe's Flower Stand.
I doubt many of these Tik Tok kids are motivated by a desire to take vengeance on local small business owners, but that's what this kind of rhetoric leads to in the real world.
If only we could...
