The White House and other observers are increasingly sounding the alarm about the mindset of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who seems poised to escalate his country’s war with Ukraine.
Experts, analysts, lawmakers and even administration officials have speculated that Putin’s isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic has raised his paranoia. They’ve pointed to decisions he’s made such as the invasion itself and his move on Sunday to put his nuclear forces on alert in suggesting he is not making rational decisions.

I think he honestly believes he is called by destiny to “save” holy Russia. He sees his window to achieve his life goal slipping away.
This is more like a high stakes gambler going all in hoping to bluff his way out of a looming defeat.

Putin is enough of an astute politician to realize that he has lost the support of the Russian people, the army and what passes for the political infrastructure in Russia. There is no correcting his bad catastrophic decision or any way to extract himself and his country from this quagmire. His days are numbered, and he knows the dagger is coming. Doubt he will make it to the Ides of March.
