... With each passing day, it is becoming clearer that Putin’s gamble is failing. The Ukrainian people are resisting with all their heart, winning the admiration of the entire world – and winning the war. Many dark days lie ahead. The Russians may still conquer the whole of Ukraine. But to win the war, the Russians would have to hold Ukraine, and they can do that only if the Ukrainian people let them. This seems increasingly unlikely to happen.

Each Russian tank destroyed and each Russian soldier killed increases the Ukrainians’ courage to resist. And each Ukrainian killed deepens the Ukrainians’ hatred of the invaders. Hatred is the ugliest of emotions. But for oppressed nations, hatred is a hidden treasure. Buried deep in the heart, it can sustain resistance for generations. To reestablish the Russian empire, Putin needs a relatively bloodless victory that will lead to a relatively hateless occupation. By spilling more and more Ukrainian blood, Putin is making sure his dream will never be realised.

Ukraine will be left an unmanageable (and much smaller) sh*thole when this is all over, what exactly will they have won then? An economic basket case dependent on the West’s aid just to eke out a minimal existence. They may even lose all access to the sea depending on how this shakes out. Zelensky’s trash talking Russia is just going to make things worse. Ukraine is now ruined for the foreseeable future.

The same people who have been misinforming us about COVID the last two years are the same ones giving us news about this conflict. Everything being reported about the situation in Ukraine should be viewed with a lot of skepticism right now.

Putin is up to something quite radical. He has totally conceded the fake news war, and is highly focused on the real life ground war. Turns out he's a traditionalist.

Here is a take on his strategy:

Putin is playing chess while the rest of the world was playing checkers. When America wages war, they seek to destroy all the infrastructure, take down the power grid, and destroy the water supply. US troops then move in as more of a mop-up operation. The West is judging Putin by the same way the US wages war and they are so wrong. Putin is not using that strategy of a video game for he wants to take Ukraine intact for it also has the richest land in the world for food production – hence Stalin stole all the food and killed 7 million by starvation.

Putin is NOT backing away from resistance, he is encircling it the classic way war is traditionally fought – you laid “siege” to the city by surrounding it, and starvation forces their surrender. That often takes time, but you then have the city and the people. You do not raze it to the ground and kill everyone. Anyone who has studied ancient war strategies should see what Putin is doing and the Western press is either deliberately putting out propaganda, or they are complete idiots.

Putin seeks to install a new government with minimal casualties to civilians. Every dead civilian creates a blood enemy of their survivors. But the US way means it then costs billions in aid to rebuild what they destroyed – i.e. Iraq. Putin is NOT using that strategy and the Western press is judging him by American standards of destroying everything and winning in a few days.

You are half right. Putin was trying to get Zelensky and the rest by spec forces attack to start with. It seem to failed miserably. Now he is trying to get it the old fashioned way, but for that he would need better troupes. Like I mentioned before, Russian draftees are a really pitiful bunch.

The Czechs at least had a long national identity as Bohemia. They had to take Slovakia and the Slovaks as otherwise the Czechs would have been outnumbered in their own country by ethnic Germans.
