Putin is building NATO.
The Finns already fought one war with the Russians before WWII. Their 150,000 man Army defeated Russian attacks again and again. Eventually Russia took about 10% of Finland. But with loss ratios of 4 Russians to each Finn. Finland is quite aware of the dangers of Russia and is not exactly toothless.

Somewhere on the net is this rather droll story of a Finnish officer who fought bravely against the Russians, so bravely that the Germans wanted to give him a medal. The officer was Jewish. He said, "No thanks".

I don’t know about the Swedes, but the Finns have a history of making Russia pay heavily for incursions. I saw a clip where a Russian oligarch had built a mansion on a Finnish island. (There are hundreds of small islands belonging to Finland.) The Finns showed up, kicked his butt off and burned the place. Something like this happens sometimes several times a year as Russia tries to microagress themselves into more territory. The Finns will not put up with it. Finnish military equipment is “tunned” to protect their territory. The ships are tiny, and have what would be unacceptably short “legs” for other navies, but they’re intended to hide in and around hundreds of small islands and they have outsized offensive capacity. They’d be useless in any other setting, but for Finland they’d exact a huge toll on any aggressor. Their other equipment is likewise “tunned” to their special circumstances.
Maybe if anything good is to come out of this its that the Europeans will figure out that maybe gun control wasn’t such a great idea after all, and that they’ll find their testicles.
Finland already spends a considerable amount of GDP (2%) on self defence. Your railing about the wrong nation dude. They know what they got to their east, i traveled there back in 2000s, it is bleak as hell in June.....cant immagine the other 11 months.

It was the nature of their territory not the “awesomeness of their military force....get real.
Finland sent 2000 M72 anti tank rockets to Ukraine today. They’re keeping 400 Leopard tanks for something special.

Now that the stupid woman Angela Merkel is dead Germany just decided an immediate boost of €100 billion ($112 billion) to their military and to raise their regular spending to over 2% of the GDP.
I was very surprised.
I’m surprised every Russian neighbor isn’t begging to join NATO at this point.
Russia has made very clear why they should.
“Toothless” is a relative term. When contrasted with the major world powers with hard core standing armed forces, they are for all practical purposes “toothless”.

They didn’t ‘side’ with the Nazis. Russia attacked them and the Germans were literally the only country willing to help them.

The Swedes have never been pushovers. They have a very capable military and through the Cold War they had their share of furballs with the Soviets and the Soviets learned to stay clear of Sweden.
That pissant country fought two wars with the Siviet Union and inflicted more than 1 million casualties on them. They had the top ACE in WWII and the top sniper of all time - he did it with iron sights to boot. Nobody but NAZI Germany would send them any aid when Stalin invaded and as a consequence they had absolutely crippling punitive reparations to pay fr the privilege of having a good chunk of their national territory swallowed by Stalin. When Putin waves his irredentist flag he should remember that most Russian territory is conquered land belonging to other nations north, south, east, and west. It is an absolute understatement to say Finland punches above its weight. The country is armed to the teeth and more than capable of pulling its weight in a fight.
And the Russian stock market will be closed again tomorrow.
