Primary school teacher, 47, admits her hair is turning grey copying mistakes in the Bayeux Tapestry as she enters SIXTH year of project to create full-sized replica

A trained primary school teacher said that copying mistakes in the Bayeux Tapestry is going to 'turn her hair grey', almost six years into a project to stitch a full-size replica of the medieval original.

Mia Hansson said she passed the halfway mark in January this year, having crafted 34.2 metres (112 feet) of the 68.38 metre (224 feet) artwork.

The 47-year-old works on the tapestry - which tells the story of the Norman Conquest in 1066 - 'curled up on my sofa' at home in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, and can spend up to 10 hours per day on it.

'If you go and view the Bayeux Tapestry you're going to see it as a whole, but I have to dissect every single inch of it to recreate it, to draw it correctly,' said Miss Hansson.

'I find all the little details that are wrong that they did wrong from the very start and probably thought 'doesn't matter, nobody's going to notice'.

'But I did, 960 years later. That hand that's turned the wrong way around, one bloke, he's got two right hands, no-one's going to notice which side his thumb is – I did.

'They did a job and they did a marvellous job. Who am I to correct their work? I honour what they've done, mistakes and all.

'But I'm a trained primary school teacher – correcting mistakes is what I do. This is going to turn my hair grey.

'I'm working on a piece now where the back leg of a horse is just simply wrong, there's everything wrong about it and I have to copy that and it's doing my head in. I will copy it as that's what they did and that's what I'll do.'

Miss Hansson started work on the replica in July 2016 ...

God bless this woman; so few people respect history and roots, this is truly remarkable. I would guess she will get some astounding offers for this replica when it’s done.

Wow!! What a beautiful job she is doing. The closest I ever got to The Bayeux Tapestry was buying a tea towel with one of the scenes on it when I was in London back in 2006. Still have it. Never used it.

Wisbech, Cambridgeshire...in the heart of the fen country

Riddled with creeks and inlets

Much nefarious activity

Punt guns and poaching.

Cool song, thanks.

Fogerty had never been “down on the bayou” when he wrote it, as you probably know.

I’ve followed her on Facebook from the the time she began this project. She is frequently asked to speak and presents the portions she has completed to schools and groups. What a wonderful opportunity for those who are fortunate enough to have had the chance to see her replica. Since I left Facebook over a year ago I have not been able to follow her progress on the tapestry. Thank you for posting this.

LOL!! I’ve got a few books on the Bayeux Tapestry that feature all the panels, but never noticed the penises. Now I’m going to have to go back and search for them.

When you look at those panels, it almost looks like a prank.

I guess even in those days, you had what we would consider today, bathroom humor.
