The IAEA added that the readings, while elevated, still remain “within the operational range.”

“The IAEA assesses that the readings reported by the regulator — of up to 9,46 microSieverts per hour — are low and remain within the operational range measured in the Exclusion Zone since it was established, and therefore do not pose any danger to the public,” the agency wrote Friday.

The IAEA’s main concern, however, is the continued and safe operation of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities amid an attack by Russian military forces.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi added that it was of “vital importance” that the country’s plants not be disturbed...

Actually not all reactors at Chernobyl were damaged. There still are couple of operating reactors there supplying power to northern Ukraine.

I thought I saw reports that both Ukrainian and Russian assets had agreed to guard that facility.

BTW there is a video that explained that a the elephants foot they can now be in there for around 2 hours before a deadly dose. At the very beginning it was less than 100 seconds.

I call BS.

Seems like standard scare tactics. “Chernobyl was pretty much under control for decades, then those Russians came in and now radiation is spiking! We’re all going to die!!”

Why would this be true?

Why would the Russians purposefully release radiation right next to their own country. This is some sad propaganda.

Incredibly, the Russian invaders are using Chernobyl as a base to stage tanks and attack Kyiv. It’s a suburb basically.

Could be, but it also sounds like propaganda - more to get the anti-nuke left audience freaked out.

All of the Russian reactors at Chernobyl were shut down more than 20 years ago. However Ukraine has 15 other reactors located at 4 sites.

I think you are misrepresenting the facts.

What’s your explanation for why the radiation is increasing?

My explanation: Media scare tactics.

Prove me wrong.

Hmmm... Driving tanks and trucks through radioactive dirt raises radiation readings. No way.

“Why would the Russians purposefully release radiation right next to their own country. This is some sad propaganda.”

I’m sure it’s not deliberate, but there is a large team constantly at the site to maintain it.

If these people can’t show up to work, their may be unexpected emissions.
