This Gary North?...

North favors capital punishment for a range of offenders, including murderers, blasphemers, children who curse their parents,[25] male homosexuals, and other people who commit some of the acts deemed capital offenses in the Old Testament.[26][27] (North believes that the death penalty for sabbath breaking and some other crimes no longer applies.[26]) North stated that the biblical admonition to kill homosexuals in the Book of Leviticus is God's "law and its morally appropriate sanction", arguing that "God is indeed a homophobe" who "hates the practice [of homosexuality] and those who practice it" and "hates the sin and hates the sinner."[28]

North has said that capital punishment should be carried out by stoning, because it is the biblically approved method of execution and it is cheap due to the plentiful and convenient supply of stones.

Yeah.

I don’t know the veracity of all that, though..

It’s true. North believed the OT laws were still intact, meaning Hindus, astrologers, homosexuals, etc., were to be executed according to God’s laws.

I knew of him through his economic work mostly.

I see a firing squad as stoning. Yes he was a theonomist and believed the biblical moral law should be upheld in the civil realm.

I don’t find that so upsetting. At sfo I have to walk through an entire terminal dedicated to Harvey Milk, admitted serial molester of boys. We have children as grand marshals of the homo parade and those who hold to Christian morality are denied jobs. Christian firefighters were required to ride on a float in the LA gay parade and our speech is being prohibited routinely. Homosexuality and Christianity cannot peacefully coexist. Learn from history or repeat it.

I read some of his articles. Mostly on economics and stuff like that. Didn’t know that he was big on “eye for eye” Hammurabi style justice.

I remember all the worry about Y2K and “systems that could have clocks we don’t even know about”.

As I thought at the time... if a system has a clock nobody knows about...chances are it’s not even set to the correct time and date.

He didn’t get Y2k wrong. He made a lot of money off it. As a programmer, so did I.

Gary North was a theonomist, i.e., someone who believes Biblical law, both civil and religious, is applicable under the New Covenant, unless specifically repealed, such as the Old Testament dietary laws. Theonomy is a subset of covenantal, or replacement, theology, which holds to the position that the church is the new Israel, and that national, or ethnic, Israel has abrogated its covenant with God, and that Jews are just another ethnic group, no different from any other ethnic group. Covenantal theology is the historic position of Lutheran, Reformed, Anglican, Wesleyan, and Catholic churches. The opposing position is dispensational theology, which deems the church as separate from Israel. While Jews, as individuals, must come to a saving knowledge of Christ as Savior. God has not abrogated His covenant with national Israel. As a result, Israel will be restored both physically and spiritually.

Theonomy is a minority position within covenantal theology, and has been criticized by numerous Reformed theologians, such as R.C. Sproul and Gordon Clark. The implications of theonomy are the applicability of Old Testament civil law, e.g., execution for blasphemy, to modern times. The leftist sources that quote Gary North on these matters are not wrong

Thanks for the explanation.

What’s your opinion? Do OT laws still matter?

I don’t think they do, as we are not Israel, nor are we an explicitly Christian nation that has ever condemned astrologers, Hindus, disobedient sons, adulterers, etc., to death.

Sorry for the delay, by the way...my computer died!

Ed

There is a school of thought that believes that America is a covenanted nation, based on the explicitly Christian documents of the Pilgrim Fathers and the implicitly Christian character of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. However, neither document explicitly calls upon God nor acknowledges the divinity, lordship, and saviorship of Jesus Christ. The Founding Fathers were predominantly Christian by profession and were mostly Anglican, Presbyterian, or Congregationalist, although Thomas Jefferson was a Deist.
