Gary North, the economist, and voluminous author died on Feb 24 while in hospice care in Georgia. He died of complications of prostate cancer, which he had been fighting since 2017. He died 13 days after his 80th birthday on Feb 11.
According to Joshua Jenkins who confirmed the death of Gary North, He was a voluminous researcher and writer who I have benefited from greatly. His books fill my shelves and I have enjoyed them as much as any. Thankful to God for his life and work.
Gary North’s obituary and funeral services will be released by the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.
North favors capital punishment for a range of offenders, including murderers, blasphemers, children who curse their parents,[25] male homosexuals, and other people who commit some of the acts deemed capital offenses in the Old Testament.[26][27] (North believes that the death penalty for sabbath breaking and some other crimes no longer applies.[26]) North stated that the biblical admonition to kill homosexuals in the Book of Leviticus is God's "law and its morally appropriate sanction", arguing that "God is indeed a homophobe" who "hates the practice [of homosexuality] and those who practice it" and "hates the sin and hates the sinner."[28]
North has said that capital punishment should be carried out by stoning, because it is the biblically approved method of execution and it is cheap due to the plentiful and convenient supply of stones.
Yeah.
I don’t know the veracity of all that, though..
Sounds like a problem.
It’s true. North believed the OT laws were still intact, meaning Hindus, astrologers, homosexuals, etc., were to be executed according to God’s laws.
I knew of him through his economic work mostly.
Some of his lectures are on YouTube, etc.
I also liked him but brother did he get Y2K wrong.
I see a firing squad as stoning. Yes he was a theonomist and believed the biblical moral law should be upheld in the civil realm.
I don’t find that so upsetting. At sfo I have to walk through an entire terminal dedicated to Harvey Milk, admitted serial molester of boys. We have children as grand marshals of the homo parade and those who hold to Christian morality are denied jobs. Christian firefighters were required to ride on a float in the LA gay parade and our speech is being prohibited routinely. Homosexuality and Christianity cannot peacefully coexist. Learn from history or repeat it.
Yeah he was well known for that.
I read some of his articles. Mostly on economics and stuff like that. Didn’t know that he was big on “eye for eye” Hammurabi style justice.
I remember all the worry about Y2K and “systems that could have clocks we don’t even know about”.
As I thought at the time... if a system has a clock nobody knows about...chances are it’s not even set to the correct time and date.
RIP.
He didn’t get Y2k wrong. He made a lot of money off it. As a programmer, so did I.
Theonomy is a minority position within covenantal theology, and has been criticized by numerous Reformed theologians, such as R.C. Sproul and Gordon Clark. The implications of theonomy are the applicability of Old Testament civil law, e.g., execution for blasphemy, to modern times. The leftist sources that quote Gary North on these matters are not wrong
Thanks for the explanation.
What’s your opinion? Do OT laws still matter?
I don’t think they do, as we are not Israel, nor are we an explicitly Christian nation that has ever condemned astrologers, Hindus, disobedient sons, adulterers, etc., to death.
Sorry for the delay, by the way...my computer died!
