Only a few paltry thousand actually makes it into the building. 90% is skimmed by bureaucrats and NGOs. These programs are little more than money laundering.

There used to be a cheap method of building houses known as the Dicker Stack Sack method. Wonder if the state could get the bums to build their own houses using this method.
Company is gone now but the idea remains.

This is why these programs exist.
Pays a lot of salaries. Pays for a lot of retreats.

The median home price for LA was estimated to be around $790,000. The median household income in Los Angeles, CA in 2019 was $67,418.
So people who go to work, pay taxes and buy their own house have their taxes used to provide a house equal to theirs for free to people who do not work or pay taxes!
Raises the question, "Why bother to work?".

I’ve been to that street and seen the house. It looks far smaller, the street is narrower. It always looked so spacious in the picture but it’s not. And the neighborhood is a bit shabby now.

Mexican resorts are ear empty and probably safer than the streets of LA or San Francisco,

I’m not sure if any new moble homes are any cheaper.
Last October I paid $215,000 for a Brand New 1800 sq ft Manufactured House Delivered to my 10 acres in Northern Los Angeles County. But it cost me OVER $300,000 for permits and compliance of those permits.
