A 19-year-old college student developed sepsis and lost his legs and fingers after eating leftover Chinese takeout food in what a doctor described as a “perfect storm” of events.
Dr. Bernard Hsu, a licensed toxicologist, described how the young man became severely ill after eating tainted leftovers, including lo mein, chicken and rice.
“This was a freak accident happening in a perfect storm sequence of events,” Hsu, who did not treat the man, in a YouTube video on Feb 16. The teen’s case was first reported in March 2021 in The New England Journal of Medicine, which detailed how he was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital as he was suffering from “shock, multiple organ failure, skin mottling, and a rapidly progressive reticular rash.”

My husband leaves things out too. It has gotten so that I will not eat anything that he cooks. Unless it just came from the market. He has notions that leaving seafood or chicken out for 5 or 6 hours after it was cooked - is no big deal. In fact, if food hasn’t cooled to room temp, he will NOT place it in the fridge.
One of these days I expect he’ll end up sick from this practice, and when the Dr. asks me what he’d eaten recently I will just shrug. LOL, he thinks I’m nuts for worrying about the way he handles food, and I think he’s risking his life.
If in doubt, throw it out.
He can’t even pull a trigger now.
There may be toxins formed that are not so easy to destroy...if not heated long enuf. My rule, even if refrigerated correctly and immediately after eating...toss out after 2 days. I have had 4 food poisoning episodes from eating at fast food joints and NEVER want another.
Hint: You can usually find them on my keyboard.
LOL...you’re like me. My wife will throw out frozen and canned food on the “expiration” date. Me — I’ll eat anything (as long as it isn’t green and fuzzy).
At least microwave any leftover perishable food for 2 minutes or more before consuming.
Chinese Food? Was it General Xi Bat? 🤓 I try to avoid Chinese food, since I’m not sure what is in it...It could be bats from the Wuhan lab...

That toxicologist has an excellent YouTube channel with many interesting and educational videos about medical cases :

You may not get as bad a case of sepsis, but sepsis is caused by the endotoxins. I sure never want plain old food poisoning again.

Born in Saskatoon but moved eventually to Vancouver when I was a kid (damn snow every time in SK). Kingsway area, Vancouver part mostly. I think I know of that resto you speak of LOL.
The great part (depends on your viewpoint) is they FILL/PILE your take out full of food. Then you ask , why is it so cheap? I know places where until now (or 2019 last time I was there) , I can get a full serving of 3 choices for $4 with rice or noodles. and they’re not even close to Chinatown. Chinatown charges you more because it’s a tourist trap.
Born in Eston, moved to Saskatoon when I was four.
Went to school at Mayfair Elementary, before we moved to Van in 1965.
Vancouver was beautiful then.
