(AP) — The three men convicted of murder in Ahmaud Arbery’s fatal shooting were found guilty of federal hate crimes Tuesday for violating Arbery’s civil rights and targeting him because he was Black.

The jury reached its decision after several hours of deliberation on the charges against father and son Greg and Travis McMichael and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan.

During the trial, prosecutors showed roughly two dozen text messages and social media posts in which Travis McMichael and Bryan used racist slurs and made derogatory comments about Black people. The FBI wasn’t able to access Greg McMichael’s phone because it was encrypted.

The McMichaels grabbed guns and jumped in a pickup truck to pursue Arbery after seeing him running in their neighborhood outside the Georgia port city of Brunswick in February 2020. Bryan joined the pursuit in his own pickup and recorded cellphone video of Travis McMichael fatally shooting Arbery. The killing became part of a larger national reckoning on racial injustice after the graphic video leaked online two months later.

Defense attorneys contended the three didn’t chase and kill Arbery because of his race but acted on the earnest, though erroneous, suspicion that Arbery had committed crimes in their neighborhood.

As I said, it's a matter of opinion.

The facts don't really matter. This is a "witch hunt" case, and the mob wanted a scapegoat. The cowardly judiciary and state officials were all too happy to throw people to the wolves in the hopes they don't get eaten instead.

Unfortunately for them, the wolves want more food.

They took a look at this and said "not my problem", and I completely understand that. It really wasn't their problem.

I read up on this case, a lot, when if first occurred. I even found a copy of the police report before it was scrubbed from the internet. Our views of what happened are to far apart to even begin debating.

The Truth is objective. We can argue about theories, but facts are immutable.

What is the most compelling piece of evidence you can present that convinces you that you are right in your understanding?

1. The Mcmichaels lied to the police about what they had done. You can take their statement to the police and compare it to the actual map of the neighborhood and the video and easily see they lied.

2. By their own testimony they chased Arbery with their vehicles. They chased him for a mile around the road loop. When Arbery got to the truck, he had a chaser behind him and two armed men in front of him.

3. You need to go read up on the older Mcmichaels, the former LEO. He had his arrest powers removed before he retired because he wouldn’t complete the required training to maintain his certifications.

4. Under the Ctizens Arrest statutes in Georgia, they had to have immediate knowledge of a crime committed by Arbery. They did not. They acted outside the law. They killed someone in the process. They were rightly convicted for it.
