Rents reach ‘insane’ levels across US with no end in sight

Krystal Guerra’s Miami apartment has a tiny kitchen, cracked tiles, warped cabinets, no dishwasher and hardly any storage space.

But Guerra was fine with the apartment’s shortcomings. It was all part of being a 32-year-old graduate student in South Florida, she reasoned, and she was happy to live there for a few more years as she finished her marketing degree.

That was until a new owner bought the property and told her he was raising the rent from $1,550 to $1,950, a 26% increase that Guerra said meant her rent would account for the majority of her take-home pay from the University of Miami.

“I thought that was insane,” said Guerra, who decided to move out. “Am I supposed to stop paying for everything else I have going on in my life just so I can pay rent? That’s unsustainable.”

If they get married and share one home, things should loosen up financially so they can begin savings.

If you can’t flat line wages increase inflation until the same goal is met.

please know that your daughter and her fiance are not alone in their struggle... too many hardworking Americans have been priced out. The best we can do in the meantime is live responsibly and frugally, and do our best to elect politicians who give a d@mn about their constituents and understand economics.

I’m really unsure what the hell they expected after the rent ‘moratoriums’ and other insanity of the past couple of years. I wouldn’t even =consider= putting a house or room up for rent these days, because the government can and will effectively confiscate it through their evil power grabs.

Sometime should tell Ms. Guerra what the rent is in London, Tokyo or any large EU city....

Golly. Could it be two years of eviction moratoriums? Could it be millions of illegal aliens and “refugees” getting their rents paid for by the stupid gringo? Could it be lack of new housing because of stupid government policies? Nah.... Bad orangeman is bad.

Gouge, gouge, gouge... There should be a law against it... Sadly, there isn’t. Something they failed to introduce when the enacted Covid measures.

If you want to completely devastate a city, rent control, over time, is even more effective than aerial bombardment.

DW and I invested some of our retirement savings in rental real estate. It was not an accident, we planned it out. We sacrificed new cars, vacations, and a lot of consumption in order to have security in our old age when we could no longer work. Us wanting to keep up with inflation is not gouging, it is a reasonable return on our investment.

And if you don't want us to get a reasonable return, what about the people we hire to help with our rentals? Should I freeze the salary of our maintenance man? He has a family to keep going during these times of inflation. How about our on-site manager. She is a single mother with young children. One of the few jobs she can balance with her responsibilities is managing our units from her home. She deserves to get a raise every year.

When the government said "eviction moratorium" tenants all heard "free rent". If you think increasing rents to cover inflation is gouging, the reality is that freezing rents is the state gouging me to benefit tenants.

I live in a blue state, and while I don't watch television, I do walk by them while the news is on. This morning, there were big banner letters saying:

GASOLINE PRICES COULD GO EVEN HIGHER!

They talk about it as if it is completely unrelated to the deliberate actions of the very people they voted to elect.

It infuriates me.

"Gee. They shut down pipelines to carry oil cheaply, driving up the cost. They set large tracts of land off limits to exploration and drilling. They have sold off the strategic oil reserves we purchased when energy was cheaper, and did so for political gain. They have reduced us to meekly asking, hat in hand, our enemies (who rejoice in seeing us stumble and suffer) if they can help us out by increasing production. And then they act as if it were a hurricane knocking out offshore drilling rigs, or tankers running aground, or just inconsiderate drivers who are using too much gasoline. And when they aren't doing that, they are accusing everyone up and down the energy chain of unfairly jacking up prices to gouge innocent Americans, including those who voted to put them in office. Am I missing something here?"

And now they do this with housing prices.

"Gee. They demonize landlords. They prosecute them for not renting to people who not only won't pay rent, but who might burn the property down or otherwise run it into the ground. They put rent controls in place. They make it impossible to collect rents. They make it impossible to evict people who won't pay. They jack up the price of everything from lumber to carpeting, and drive renters out of the market who won't put up with it. They drive up the amount of electricity, gas, and heating oil which landlords often have to cover. They make rental units scarce, driving up the cost so people cannot afford it. And they are whining about people unable to find rental units or pay for them when they do. Am I missing something here?"

These scummy bastards running the country, and the localities that enthusiastically take their marching orders from them make me want to puke.

And we have 3 more years left of this nightmare, possibly 7 because nothing is being done about election integrity. Our house is burning down and nobody is taking action to put out the fire.

It is hard to believe it has only been one year with the Leftists having their rat-claws on the levers of power.

One year.

Look at the damage they have been able to do in such a short time.

This has convinced me (as if I didn’t need to be convinced) that their actions are taken with the goal of destruction of the country.

As the American Hero Senator Joseph McCarthy once said (and I paraphrase) “If the results of the actions they have taken were due to incompetence, bad luck, or stupidity, then at least some of the actions would result in positive outcomes.”

None have. None.

Yep, it absolutely is 100% intentional which is why I call the Biden Presidency the “Biden occupation”. It’s an occupation of the highest reaches of our government by enemies both foreign and domestic. This is what happens when treason is not prosecuted.

That runs the gamut for all this illegal behavior, the spying, voting fraud, lying under oath, never mind the spectrum of violent and property crime.

Nobody gets punished.

What is not punished is allowed.

Yes many Young couples are priced out the housing market and making landlords more financially secure instead of themselves.

What goes up must come down. The perverse fetishism with homeownership as an entitlement and a birthright for Americans must also stop.
