Rents reach ‘insane’ levels across US with no end in sight

Krystal Guerra’s Miami apartment has a tiny kitchen, cracked tiles, warped cabinets, no dishwasher and hardly any storage space.

But Guerra was fine with the apartment’s shortcomings. It was all part of being a 32-year-old graduate student in South Florida, she reasoned, and she was happy to live there for a few more years as she finished her marketing degree.

That was until a new owner bought the property and told her he was raising the rent from $1,550 to $1,950, a 26% increase that Guerra said meant her rent would account for the majority of her take-home pay from the University of Miami.

“I thought that was insane,” said Guerra, who decided to move out. “Am I supposed to stop paying for everything else I have going on in my life just so I can pay rent? That’s unsustainable.”

One democrat I know would just keep refraining, before the election. that he wants “ a nicer president.”

Funny, I can not get him to engage now when I ask “how is people struggling to buy food and now being made homeless nicer?”

Thing is he will do it again because feels and ideology is their reality, reality is NOT their reality.

“Thing is he will do it again”

And there’s our problem. They have been indoctrinated to believe Democrats are “for the people” and voting Democrat proves they are intelligent and virtuous.

That’s why I said in another thread on this, it’s going to take real, significant pain to change some minds.

This was foreseen and planned so the dems could pass a law giving every non-White “free” rent at Whitey’s expense.

Just wait, if you don’t believe me.

Gouge, gouge, gouge... There should be a law against it... Sadly, there isn’t. Something they failed to introduce when the enacted Covid measures.

Well he will have 3 more years of this crap, and being that absolutely nothing is being done about election integrity, I fully expect democrats to steal the midterms as well so it will get even more horrific. Let’s see how he feels 3 years from now when we are in a war with Russia and China with a nuclear Iran to boot.

Most people’s rent hasn’t changed recently because they have leases longer than month-to-month.

For renters who are moving it’s a different story of course.

“There should be a law against it..”

A law against a free market?

Yeah, communist countries have those.

Not gouge:

“a new owner bought the property and told her he was raising the rent”

Most likely the new owner paid significantly more for the property than the previous owner did because of the increase in real estate values and property taxes. Her lease is no longer valid(due to a clause in every standard rental contract) with the new landlord.

Haha. Sorry, Ms. Guerra, who, statistically speaking probably voted for pedo Joe in south Florida.

You should have voted to continue the administration that had produced a strong economy.

Oh well. Now you know.

Renters just don't understand that rent must be adjusted upward not only to accommodate for inflation, but also to provide insurance against future government moratoriums against evictions. I would expect that to almost double rents .. and that's after being adjusted for inflation.

Also, landlords must anticipate future rent controls, and adjust upwards for that.

The future is going to be miserable.

“...will have 3 more years of this crap...”

You hope. Dominion may have a different opinion. The “Steal” may be ongoing considering the Left has 3 more years to perfect their system.

I do not believe there will be any significant changing of minds. Most people keep doing what they do until they cannot do it any longer. And if given a second chance, they go right back to doing what they did before.

Change will come only after a lot of people have passed into history.

A system where rents exceed prevailing wages will accelerate that passage.

Rests and home prices are linked. A rule of thumb used to be a monthly rent would be roughly .5-1% of the value of the property. For instance, a 500K house would rent for about 2500 to 5K a month.

In my neighborhood where I live in Fl, it is about .75%.

DILs house rent in the .5% of value per month one city away.

I guess if one lives in more desirable areas where house values are extreme, one pays extreme rents.

There is nothing unique today from any other time except the media would love to see national rent controls along with a harness on evictions.

My daughter and her fiance want buy a house, a modest first home.

He is a long haul truck driver and works a lot of days, sometimes on the road a month and a half.

My daughter is a full time youth care counselor and is paid well.

They cannot afford to buy a house, mostly because of the high rent they each pay for the separate apartments. My daughters apartment is in the worst part of town. She has a labrador and that makes it hard to find a place in better neighborhoods. Breaks my heart, I help her as much as I can.

Those getting wealthy off the poor will not enter the Kingdom of God.
