War Game Exercise - WW3

Let's play a game. It's called Wargame Exercise - WW3. The game is based on the world around us as of 2/21/2022. Something I have been thinking about is the worlds current posture, militarily, socially, geographically, and politically.

When the first images appear on social media, showing the devastation that Russia can bring our young people will collapse with the vapors. The nation will be split between warhawks and snowflakes. This will make the US policy impotent.

We will sit this out until the attack Poland. And that won’t be for a while.

In the mean time, oil goes to $200. Nat gas runs out in Germany.

Turkey becomes the regional power because they can buy all the Russian energy without using SWIFT. Erdogan becomes a potentate of a new Ottoman Empire.

The economy takes a huge dump. Taxes dry up. Unemployment skyrockets.

Dogs will lie with cats. Old people will eat bugs. And the cleanest water will be in puddles.

Has anyone thought that maybe all those ships off the coast of California are full of missile launchers intended for us, and not shipping containers?

That’s been on my mind for quite some time.

I didn’t say Austria was interested in Galicia.

I said that Galicia, and the people who live in it, are a better fit with Europe that they are with Russia, and a “Ukrainian” ethnostate that forces them and the Russians in the East to live together is a problem waiting to explode, which it is trying to do right this minute.

Given the success of the first attack, and the anticipated results of our upcoming elections

What on earth are you talking about?

1) The first attack: What are you talking about?

2) The anticipated result of the upcoming election: I certainly hope you are not placing your hopes on Republicans, of all things

Let’s assume for a second that with Russia’s move into Eastern Ukraine is the precursor to a full on invasion, what can the Biden Administration so (not militarily) to stop Putin?

I’ll toss one out there. Biden is receiving more pressure from the left to continue shutting down US oil production. In an unprecedented move, Biden tells the left to go pound sand and in a backroom deal with Republican congressional and Senate leaders announces that US oil production will resume immediately. This brings moderates back into the Biden camp, which helps Democrats in the midterms.

We know the only sanctions that will stop Russia is to starve them of cash and resuming oil production prevents Russia from starving Europe of energy resources while at the same time drives down US energy, logistics and food costs. I’m not sure what other sanctions we can place on Russia that will hurt them.

1) Eastern Ukraine is part of Russia.

Eastern Ukraine has never been part of Russia. Historical fact. The separatists only control about a third of the Donbass. If Russia goes into controlled areas, it is an illegal action. Some sanctions have already been operationalized.

Putin has opted out of a full-scale invasion, however, it is up to NATO/EU/US to determine if this is considered a full-scale invasion and gets the real economic restrictions which will devastate Russia’s economy or more of the lesser types which have harmed Russia, but not devastated it.

This Putin selection affirms he knows the consequences of his actions will hurt the Russian economy. Now the West has to decide if they play along with Operation Sudetenland and appease or go full economic restriction.

2) Taiwan has been acknowledged as part of China by the US since 1983, and realistically since 1973. The internal affairs of China are none of our business.

This ignores the diplomatic strategic ambiguity of US policy. The US has strong ties to Taiwan and the independent Chinese people on Taiwan.

Recent upgrades to military sales to Taiwan, ignore Mainland China rhetoric. The Taiwanese have advanced F16 with 5 generation radar. They also have elite precision strike fires that can reach the Chinese staging areas.

Economically, Taiwan has 66% of the world microchip market, which makes Taiwan a strategic national interest that the US will help Taiwan defend.

Chinese projection capabilities are limited and a successful invasion is in question. The Chinese will not risk an invasion, due to the probability of success is low.

Overall, Europeans are now running naval patrols with US naval assets in the Pacific. Western alliances are the strength of the deterrence in regard to China and Russian ability to wage war.

1. China is not able to breakout from the first island chain it this point. They are the primary threat to the US and to world peace.

2. Russia has the GDP of Spain and the per capita economic strength of about half of Spain. It has large armies and air forces, but does not have the overall force multipliers like top level command, control and battlespace real time management.

Russia, despite its nuclear forces, is a nuisance state to the West. It can only select non NATO weak countries to cause problems. It’s true strength is only in alliance with China. However, its ability to assist China in a naval air battle is limited and neutralized fairly quickly.

Russia’s true ability to assist China is in causing a two front war in Europe. The US can no longer win a two front war. This is why Russian small select gains is in the US national interest.

Summary: We are not having a WWIII scenario until China advances more in 20 or 30 years. The national interest of the US is the further degradation of Russia when it steps out of the international rules based system by attacking the Russian economy with next level economic sanctions, which are really not sanctions but systemic economic restrictions.

The most efficient way to degrade Russia is to allow it to continue illegal annexations and invasions of weaker nations and bleeding Russia’s weak economy with economic hits that will bleed the Russian economy and hurt oligarchs in their pocket.

Over the last few decades, Russia has focused less on war and more on business. Wars are bad for business. Russia is basically run by billionaires. Some of the billionaires are war profiteers who use proxy wars to make money.

No you specifically stated:

“Western Ukraine is part of Poland, or Austria.”

During the Habsburg rule for approx 100 years it fell under “Austrian” rule. That doesn’t make them a continual part of Austria. Just because they renamed Lviv to Lemberg doesn’t make it any more Austrian either. In fact the rule of Hapsburg actually pushed the Ukrainians more towards Russia in the long run.
