The heartbroken parents of murdered SUNY Potsdam student Elizabeth Howell said their daughter was likely a random victim in the “wrong place, wrong time” when she was gunned down just off campus.
“She was the type of person that didn’t have enemies, and certainly no one that would want to kill her. As soon as they told us, we figured wrong place, wrong time,” her father Joe Howell told The Post in an emotional interview at the family’s Patterson, New York home.
Elizabeth, 21, was found lying on the side of College Park Road with gunshot wounds, according to state police. She was a senior studying music education who played in the school’s Crane Symphony Orchestra.
Howell and his wife Ann said their daughter was a highly active member of her community, teaching swimming, lifeguarding and cello while dancing ballet and playing in orchestras on her own.

The problem is that street thugs are everywhere, all the time, and the system does nothing about it.
White girl suggests black thug.
Pretty white girl suggests a rejection of the black thugs romantic overtures and an incapability have handling rejection.
That’s my default position, until more information comes forth and tells me I’m wrong.
The only response is to not start a family. Too much heartbreak out there. Who’s gonna do their part in the government that one’s taxes pay for? Where’s the village Hillary spoke of?
I should read the article, so my bad.
I’m still with the romantic overtures and a guy that cannot handle the rejection.
My apologies to anybody I may have offended by my too quick assumption.
Her parents are part of the crime problem we’re facing.
Wrongs should be righted.
Potsdam NY is in the middle of nowhere...
Nearby is Clarkson U and St. Lawrence U. but all three of these schools are in the middle of nowhere, and cold this time of year. Feral Yute is unlikely. This is likely another student.
Yup. And I’m all for the Paul Kersey method of righting wrongs.
Didn’t bother to read the article before throwing around racial stereotypes?
As I said, it’s my default position because of how many of these types of stories I have read and the victim and the perps.
I also don’t mind saying I was wrong when I am and I was wrong.
Parents don’t seem too heartbroken to me. Not from that “wrong place, wrong time” statement.
Why don’t they just say the daughter was born in the wrong century or wrong planet or wrong dimension?
Read the article…they have a suspect.
.
The maximum likely penalty is second degree murder and that is 25 years in New York state.
I hope he gets that.
New York State of Anarchy…
They seem to be coping strangely well.
Admitted, that just an euphemism for what is wanted by them.
> “wrong place, wrong time” <
Uh, no. That explanation works when a person is hit on the head by a meteor. This killing was the work of a monster.
I don’t blame the parents much for saying that, though. Their shock and grief must be intense. I just hope that the public at large can think about this crime more clearly.
