Seattle drops bike helmet law because cops unfairly targeted people of color and homeless people: Black cyclists were four times as likely to be stopped as whites The King County Board of Health voted Thursday to repeal its decades-old mandatory helmet rule Data showed the rule was rarely enforced, but enforced disproportionately
Since 2017, Seattle police had given 117 helmet citations, more than 40 percent of which went to people who were homeless Since 2019, 60 percent of citations went to people who were homeless Central Seattle Greenways found that black cyclists were almost four times as likely to receive a citation for violating the helmet rule as white cyclists
Seattle is the largest city in the country to enforce a bike helmet requirement
King County Councilmember Joe McDermott said there are other ways of encouraging helmet use that do not rely on law enforcement, including educational campaigns and free helmet distribution The King County Council recently budgeted more than $200,000 to buy helmets and expand education programs The repeal affects most of King County, including Seattle However, 17 cities in the county, have their own laws mandating helmet use

LOL - black people don’t follow a law, so let’s drop it! I guess we don’t need it anyway!
60 percent of citations went to people who were homeless
***So writing that ridiculous ticket never really worked as a revenue generator.
Eventually, Seattle is going to learn what some nitpicking revenue generating cities have learned, and that is to fund their building permits commission with ticket writing revenuers. Because when the time comes to sell the house or property, the city has a lien on it. Naturally, they won’t be able to keep it up on the slums which drift into abandonment.
I learned recently when I tried to renew my registration that parking tickets now block your registration of any vehicle. Cops and revenuers have figured out whose blood to suck.
Does that explain why they allow minorities to kill minorities - they know that a greater percentage do the killing than among Whiteys. They don’t want disproportional arrest rates so they deliberately and intentionally do nothing about the killing. They’re going to blame Whitey anyway.
I’d like to ask Seattle why they had been so incredibly racist, all these years, until today?
What does a bike helmet law have to do with race?
I thought helmet laws were about safety.
I bet they stopped all the hot white chicks too.
Libertarians. They’re against the mandatory wearing of brain buckets.
“It was not enforced disproportionately. It was enforced against the OFFENDERS, who are mostly highly privileged members of preferred minority groups.”
I worked for the Israeli owned contractor who had the unclassified section of the army’s SINCGARS radio. GD had the classified section. Both companies had taken the bulk of their workforce off the welfare rolls in exchange for free rent. (Horrible deal in my opinion as the workers did not want to work. Most were black.) Both companies stopped enforcing their random drug tests because, as I understand it, none of the black employees passed the test whereas, at that time, all of the white employees had passed. Their lawyers told them that, therefore, the test was racist by definition as it only failed blacks.
The soft racism of low expectations, Volume MMXXII.
In addition to the obvious absurdity, this hurts blacks. They wear helmets less, therefore reminding them to wear helmets saves some of their lives. They want the right to not be protected from brain injuries.
Wouldn’t this also mean they shouldn’t be made to wear seat belts?
I’m your man!!! :)
This goes on in public schools as follows. More black kids need help with reading etc. The black special education teachers declare they “won’t classify any more black kids” because it’s racist. Therefore the black kids who need help don’t get it.
And in other discussions, the black teachers say the black kids are different and can’t be made to sit still in class, can’t learn the same way, etc.
Cause you know why?
The argument that it costs taxpayers money to treat the injured and/or that it destroys lives and families...
...can be applied to eating bad, drinking too much, smoking cigarettes...

How ya been? :)
How ya been? :)
Laws don’t really help stupid people anyway. I’m sure people who can manage their own health will wear the proper gear.
< /sarcasm>
What’s the over/under on the time before some social justice worrier weeps about the disproportionate number of blacks getting concussions from bike wrecks and demand that helmets be required again?
