I see the sarc tag but is that really a racist term? There’s a group of people called paddies or wagons? Come to think of it, I don’t believe I’ve ever used that term before for anyone to point that out to me. Educate me, my friend, so I can clean up my act.

Once President Trump was called out as a racist by the libs for using the term “paddy wagon”
“ Early police vehicles – like the one pictured here from the 1920s – were known as ‘paddy wagons. ... Around that time, nearly half of New York City’s law enforcement officers were also Irish. Therefore, a paddy wagon might have gotten its name because it was a vehicle often driven by an Irishman.”
.
So paddy is an Irish slur? Okay, no more paddy wagons for me (last time, really). Apologies to all the Irish here. In my weak defense, I picked up the term from Tanner while I was watching the Tireroasters Garage last night. He was recounting his kidnapping by Ottawa police and his distant mall release and he used the term. I didn’t even know enough to know it was offensive. Thank you.
I always figured it was because it hauled Irish drunks a lot.
Common Irish, “on island” name - Padraig.
As a youngster, sometimes called Paddy.
When I grew up in Canada, we always called them the paddy wagon.
