The usuals late. MI, TN, WA (hasn’t reported since 10th).

I’m gonna suggest 2500ish dead today when the laggards are in. It will lift the slope a bit.

Still a lot of deaths even though case numbers and hospitalizations are dropping rapidly.

Great looking trends!

Test positivity back into the single digits finally.

Soon we will be tripping all the old thresholds that State and Local Governments used to use for toggling COVID restrictions, back when the illness was more severe (before Omicron). All restrictions should be ending soon.

Its great to see the hospitals emptying their COVID wards.

I ran into a doctor friend tonight, who is now back socializing, after cutting back his contacts outside of work (to reduce COVID exposure, because he was essential). He had been missing for over a year, but was back out mingling tonight (albeit with an effective looking mask).

‘It will lift the slope a bit’?????

Written like a true ghoul. Like you are rooting for death. And your circlejerk mate just nods in approval like you were discussing a 70 degree sunny day.

Dual Ghouls.

Agreed.
Ghouls.
With inflated numbers.
And they don’t care.

any guesses on when we hit 1 million?

my local hospital has a tracker, numbers of hospitalized and ICU, broken down by vaxed vs unvaxed. When this Omicron started it was 70% unvaxed, 30% vaxed. It just crossed over to majority vaccinated for the first time.. Won’t be surprised if they drop the tracker soon.

At this rate, it'll take a month or so. A majority of deaths happening on Biden's watch.

Vax relentlessly weakens. Boosters are at about 25%, and they weaken in a few weeks. Recovered infection immunity probably dies about as fast as the double vax. No reason why it should not. So your observed vax/unvaxed mix moves to the vaxed people.

People are naturally weak minded. They can’t bear to face a powerful enemy and what is happening so they imagine conspiracies or rosy scenarios or hatred of pharm. You can explain that the virus doesn’t care about their beliefs, or governments or whatever. But it’s just outside comfort zones so . . . denied.

What can stop this? Only one thing has worked. Evacuation. Doesn’t mean something else can’t work, but that is the only thing that worked. NYC.

As long as they keep counting everything as covid, you will be right.

So much for following the science. Deaths aren’t really down, cases neither. Yet for some weird reason (elections) everyone is loosening up. Not that I care but it’s such a farce.

Interesting enough, you've seen people return to school so the argument would be why can't we have people return to office? If you are a young person, why shouldn't you be in school or working in an office building? D.C. is a different story obviously but I am a little bit surprised that people haven't returned to skyscrapers in NYC.

Per Hopkins numbers the CFR overall US is now at 1.2%.

The last month - ONLY .5%!

It’s becoming more of a piker, even if the numbers are completely accurate. Never mind if they count all the people that were not tested at the right time….

Anybody know what the CFR for flu is in a typical year?

Granted that the reported flu case numbers are likely very low compared to actual infections, as SFAIK virtually no testing has ever been done to try to determine mild or asymptomatic flu cases.

How do you conclude cases are not down? US cases are under 18% of a month ago. Particularly in most areas where Omicron hit early, cases are down even more.

I probably should have said: “... SFAIK no mass testing has ever been done in a typical year to try to determine mild or asymptomatic flu case numbers.

A piker?

Look, I’m not as gloomy as a certain poster here, BUT, even adjusted for population, during this Omicron peak we’ve still been losing people at a faster rate to COVID than we lost to hostilities in WW2.
