Reveling in the free life outside of California
American Thinker ^ | 15 Feb, 2022 | Terry Paulding

Last week, I wrote about the beginning of my journey, driving to Boise, Idaho from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I subsequently spent most of the week exploring the city, where I enjoyed myself very much. I think I would have liked Boise in any event but what made the trip so eye-opening was being reminded what life is like in a state that hasn’t destroyed itself by embracing squalor and crime while imposing totalitarian restrictions on its law-abiding citizens.

My first impression was that Boise, compared to California, is incredibly clean. I didn’t see any random garbage. The streets weren’t full of potholes. I didn’t see even one homeless person—maybe because the weather is cold this time of year but also, I suspect, because Boise doesn’t cater to them.

California embraces having indigent addicts running rampant, pays them $600 a month in assistance and now, in San Francisco, is also planning on giving them their chosen set of drugs and a “safe” place to shoot them up in a “navigation center.”

Stores in Boise are clean and, obviously, have not been picked through by emboldened shoplifters as is the case in the Bay Area. I didn’t see anyone with an open car trunk, selling random packaged goods lifted from the local grocery or pharmacy, which is, again, a common sight at home.

People were friendly, not wary, in Boise. What a contrast to home! It actually took some getting used to.

Yes, and those poor benighted souls are too stupid to comprehend just how suffused with evil they are.

It's a bit like the final scene of La Dolce Vita, in which the people, sick with decadence, find some monstrous thing washed up on the beach--evil--and they can't figure out what it is, and there is an angel calling to them; they can see her, but they can't understand what she's saying.

The evil--the corruption, the decadence, the untruth--all of which is "the left," i.e. the Democrat Party and its fellow travelers--is overwhelming and destroying America, and millions of Americans are willfully blind to what's happening. They cannot escape blame; they have allowed themselves to be misled.

It's also very much like Germany of the 1930's, when the German People lost their way and allowed the horrifying, evil of the Third Reich to overwhelm them.

America's corrupt, self-serving politicians, willing to sell America and every US citizen to the highest bidder, are to blame, but they are not the only ones to blame. Every single person who co-operates with them and fails to oppose this evil shares the blame.

It's been years since I was in Idaho. I loved it then. That's one place I would love to live.

Pauling's description of California and his description of Idaho, as I remember it, are dead-on accurate.

Only a fool would prefer the sleazy decadence of California to the pristine, beautiful ascendancy of Idaho--which explains a lot.

Not to worry transplant. From what I hear Boise will soon be more like the crap you left than what you imagine it to be. Anyone? Idahoans? Bueller?

Yes, Boise is nice but I lived there 20 years ago and I can tell you it’s different now. Boise is on its way to being a leftist city. The same thing happened to Seattle in the 80’s. Seattle is unrecognizable today and I won’t ever go back. I now live in the Portland metro area...DOH!

Excellent post.

I left California many years ago but I had to make pit stops in Massachusetts and NY.

Oh my God, the same demonrat policies. I finally am resting in a nice, clean and FREE red state-South Dakota.

Never been more happier.

This comment says a lot to me: “...which is, again, a common sight at home.” If you’ve moved to Boise, THAT is your home. Keeping that “at home” mind set does not bode well. Probably the one thing we comment on from “at home” is the zoning where we are now is crazy. Unlike “at home”. LOL!

Meanwhile, these "revelers" are gifting Idaho with the "kalifornia touch", viz. everything they touch turns to crap.

I cringe every time I see a license plate from some liberal sewer. Mostly kali.

Random garbage... That’s what the left creates everywhere it goes.

Idaho, especially the SE portion, is very clean and tidy and VERY strong with the Mormon Church.

I’ll be driving through Idaho today and will fill-up at my favorite Maverick gas station to fill up on ethanol free (EF) regular (after stopping in Dillon for EF premium).

Two nights in SLC then back on Thursday. It’s clean and pleasant drive both ways.

You must have a job that compels you to be in the Portland area because the difference between Seattle and Portland is city size.

Both are shitholes and I used to work for companies located {near} both but that was in the late 80s and early 90s and both places were fantastic cities to visit.

Today, meh.

That would be a nice drive in a convertable, but not at this time of year.

Not Texas, either. I know it’s trendy these days, but I can’t bring myself to consider it.

I smell disdain and a look down on Texas! This tells me that this is one of the ‘reasonable, moderate’ libs who will relocate to Boise or somewhere else and ‘will try to make it better’ when he and his family vote!

To him, his vote would be ‘yes to just a little tax to help the poor and homeless’ and that’s when the slide to Boise ‘slums’ start!

I suggest a residence for a number of YEARS should be required before those soaked in liberalism start ruining the places they invade!

can’t bring myself to consider it.

I repeated the guy’s comment to show that it’s missing a reason, such as objection to weather, illegal immigration, etc…

Watch out red states, the locust has been landing for years and the red election winning margins are coming down every cycle. Even that bitch, AOC, said that “Texas turning blue is inevitable!”
