If we accept the premise that high school athletes with unknown heart issues who die on the court is rare, then we have to ask a few questions:

• Are the heart issues as "rare" as we thought they were?
• Are the heart issues becoming less rare in our youth today than they were in the past?
• Are the heart issues with our youth the same, but something new is triggering them early?
• Are the heart issues with our youth the same, but something new is affecting the heart?
• Is this a confirmation bias such that the rate of young student deaths haven't changed but that we're noticing them more than before for some reason?
