Dr. Dorit Nitzan explains the difference between Omicron and the new sub-variant, and why there may be bigger issues at hand. While the original Omicron variant first detected in South Africa in late November is still the dominant virus strain in most countries, others are starting to worry about a new sub-variant that has been halting the downward trend in infections – the BA.2 sub-variant.

WRONG! B^LLSH%T!!
The Dominant Strain affecting the World is TOTALITARIANISM.
Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab! Jab!
What ever happened to the Delta variant?? It just disappeared from the news.
I’m waiting for a new variant to show up that’s not a “variant”.
My first thought.
It will never end.
BA.2
BA.3
BA.4
BA.5
BA.6
November Elections
No more covid crap we’re free.
Yes they will after mid-terms are won by their Party.

It couldn’t compete with Omicron in the infectiousness department and was dispatched to the dustbin of history.
Anothercon variant
A better model came out.
This sort of succession is not unusual for very infectious "novel" pathogens. My Dad used to deal with somewhat similar patterns with plant diseases, although, granted, the time frames are generally longer, since plants are not humans (except to tree huggers).
The article posted does mention that completely new viruses are inevitably in the pipeline, but we don’t know what they are yet.
I believe the two omicrons were designed to wipe out delta and did not evolve naturally. Too different in design and result to be a natural mutation, plus when you look at them the very mutation we wanted is right there, with no other mutations around it. It grew straight out like a transplanted organ. And so strangely convenient the way the BA.2 was an improvement on BA.1 in wiping out delta.
We lucked out. May the biochemists be as successful next time around.
BadA$$.2 subvariant = winter of death? More fear porn...
No, it’s the opposite of fear porn. It’s more contagious, so it will finish wiping out delta, but it is again less severe than delta, and possibly less severe that BA.1 as well.
This had to be done because of the vaccine resistance here and the vaccine lack of availability in parts of the rest of the world.
Unfortunately, some people will still get severely ill and some will die, but that couldn’t be helped.
I’m waiting for Omicron BR-549.
The Three Stooges did a song about this variant called Swingin the Alphabet.
BA bicki by, BA beau...
Popular theory — mutations make viruses less deadly.
Reality, Delta was more deadly than original
Popular theory — Omicron has only mild symptoms.
Reality, South Africa is posting death counts about 7X higher than the weeks just prior to Omicron arrival from Botswana, where it first appeared. And US Covid death counts are about 2000 per day, they are almost certainly 100% Omicron by now, and 1500-2000 is far above death counts of July, immediately pre Delta. Russia has spiked cases and ended death count decline as Omicron arrived.
Popular theory — Vax saves many lives.
Reality — Vax fades, just like recovered/natural immunity. And Omicron’s structure is very specifically of a sort to penetrate any immunity of any kind. The US population is full of vax’ed people and full of 2020/2021 infected and recovered people with alleged immunity —— and US death counts are currently 2000/day. Omicron doesn’t care.
If you are weak minded and unable to face an overwhelmingly strong enemy, then you can die in some sort of oblivious stupor. If, instead, you are not weak minded and recognize an overwhelming enemy, then think about your own behavior. The virus doesn’t care about govt lockdowns. But it can be defeated by your own behavior. You can’t be infected if you’re not around people. Have a look at NYC death curves and how office space is empty to learn this lesson.
Oh..eff off...not interested
What happened to the Flu?
Washed and sanitized hands.
Yeah right...but washing and sanitizing doesn’t kill other viruses???
