Community “charity” fundraising company GoFundMe demonstrated they’re woke and fascist at the same time by canceling the Freedom Convoy campaign and promising to send the $9+ million raised to “approved charities.” Now, they’re scrambling to fix the PR nightmare that ensued by moving to refund all donations.
The company had hoped that by dropping the news late on a Friday that they’d avoid some of the backlash. But it was quickly seized by conservatives across social media as an example of the totalitarian nature of the left. We didn’t let them oppose freedom without voicing our opinions and pushing to make them feel the pain.
But maybe it wasn’t just the backlash that got them to change their minds. As Christian competitor GiveSendGo noted on their social accounts, disputing the charges does more pain to the company than simply requesting a refund:

Hear hear!
In the last year, I've given to a family that lost two children in a fire, and another family whose young mother was killed in a hit and run pedestrian accident.
A majority of people have no political agenda and don't follow the douchebaggery of every company out there. I would just give money more directly in future circumstances.
Just demonstrates how arrogant they are.
Why bother? The world will still continue to function if GFM goes extinct.
Screw ‘em!
A bunch of woke tards should be given a legal face plant of the first order for this stupidity. It should hurt, and hurt for decades!

Now
GoF#&%Me has probably already received “preservation of records” notices from prosecutors and private attorneys all over North America.
They will receive real subpoenas for 5+ years of their records in a matter of days.
They may already have sat down and come up with an estimate — maybe $500,000 at a minimum — of what it’s going to cost them in legal fees to just to deal with this even BEFORE any lawsuit or prosecution is initiated.
I’m sure the phone has been ringing off the hook with their insurance carrier to see if the company is covered for this kind of malfeasance.
And if that’s the case, the insurance carrier is probably begging every state AG investigating the matter to file criminal charges … because the insurance company almost certainly won’t owe a dime if fraud is involved.
Oh yeah. They didn't help themselves any with the "Ha ha, we gotcha!" tone of the original announcement, either. They get their cut of just over $10 million and get to give the rest to somebody else too. Sweet deal if you can manage it.
There is also another fraud claim, which is that by the truckers. And another is that by those whose cause was to invest in a freedom movement, GFM claimed to enable that and then interfered, obviating a free speech right.
It's a mess and these woke directors landed themselves right in the thick of it.
He has.
Class action lawsuit needed here.
The easiest way to defund GoFundMe is to have Congress pass a law that the proceeds are taxable and set the IRS loose on the receivers. The way its structured now is an invitation for money-laundering abuse.
I wonder if you can make a 1 dollar contribution and then put your opinion of GFM in the comments. Maybe include alternate contribution sites.
When donors gave their money they entered into a contract. If Go Fund Me unilaterally changed the terms of that contract after the fact they are guilty of breach of contract.
If the terms of the Go Fund Me contract prohibited fund raising but allowed this fund raising and then cut off the fund raising, Go Fund Me is guilty of fraud.
If this fund raising was prohibited by the Go Fund Me's terms of use why did Go Fund Me allow the fund raising in the first place?
If Go Fund Me claims criminal acts negate the contract, they will have to explain why Black Lives Matter was funded during government imposed curfews, riots, destruction of property, looting, and arrests.
If this is left unchallenged, any business can confiscate anyone's money at any time for any arbitrary and capricious reason.
Shut their criminal enterprise down!
Expect refunds in 7~10 business days.
While we collect interest on a cool 10 mil. SUCKERS!
A bunch of defundamentalist extremists...
Were they involved with the 60 Mil from BLM
