Re: Humidity Domes. It’s important to remember that those are just needed until your seeds germinate.

Keeping them on longer can lead to damping off disease due to too much moisture being held in.

I’m not sure what the benefit is with those high domes? Never understood that. Any ideas?

Yeah, I read about taking the dome off once they’re all germinated to prevent damping off.

Seems like I saw something about certain plants that like humidity. Some of the tall domes also have them with a groove for a LED light strip which didn’t really make sense to me. I think some people do micro-greens with the tall lid, something between sprouts and baby greens. The tray setup I’m getting comes with 7” domes but I’m getting some 2” domes. I would use the 2” for germination. We have a lot of wind here so the 7” domes might be good on certain days when hardening off. Might also be good for in here on really cold nights. Vents wide open in both cases.

That makes sense for baby greens/micro greens.

I had a customer come into the store with a full flat of small pepper seedlings that were BLACK.

He couldn’t figure out what he was doing wrong. After an EXTENSIVE conversation, it turns out he was leaving the lights on his plants 24/7 and had the lights about 1/2” from them.

He basically cooked them. Do over! :)

Glad I made this post. My computer had issues and I had to reinstall windows & ubuntu. I managed to save all my files but lost one browser’s data, bookmarks, history and also lost the notetaking app data for a new notetaking app I’d been using. Only a month worth and strictly recent gardening notes.

Getting ready to buy seed starting equipment and for the life of me, couldn’t remember wholesalegrowersdirect.com which is where I’m getting everything but the grow light.
