South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) on Thursday signed a bill into law that bans transgender athletes from competing on girls' and women's sports teams, NBC News reported.
"This bill has been an important priority for a lot of the people behind me," Noem said at a press conference, "and I appreciate all of their hard work in making sure that girls will always have the opportunity to play in girls sports in South Dakota and have an opportunity for a level playing field, for fairness, that gives them the chance to experience success."
The new law will apply to all state-accredited schools in South Dakota, according to NBC News. Under the law, if a student at such a school “suffers direct or indirect harm" as a result of the law being violated, they will be allowed to sue the school, association or government entity that caused the alleged harm.
Last month, Noem released an ad touting the legislation, then making its way through the state legislature, saying it “will give South Dakota the strongest law protecting female sports in the nation!”

The headline is Fake News. A transgender ‘man’ can still compete on the women’s team.
Was really confused for a moment. Thought the headline said, “Neon signs law banning transgender athletes from female sports teams”
So she signed a worthless law that does not ban trannies?
So, is a “transgender” man really a man or a woman?
Substitute “faux” for “transgender” and it will make sense.
How is it worthless? It bans “transgender” athletes from competing on women’s or girls’ sports teams, and makes it possible for students to sue schools that ignore the law. Sounds good to me.
That’s racist
It doesn’t ban the trannies from competing, it just allows girls to sue for damages.
I have an idea: let’s have women sports and “transgender” sports.
On re-reading, you are correct, it does ban the trannies and the suing is the backstop for intransigent schools.
So, if a transgender man is really a woman, why are you upset that she can play on a woman’s team?
Title IX violation to allow transgender athletes to compete on women’s sports teams.
If the law doesn’t specify the at birth biological definition of “Male” & “Female” this is fake news/propaganda...
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) on Thursday signed a bill into law that bans transgender athletes from competing on girls' and women's sports teams, NBC News reported.
Further, if any school violates the law and allows trannies to compete against girls or women, the school can be sued by the legit female athletes for the harm the school caused by violating the law.
Seems straightforward and like a damn' good law to me.
“On re-reading, you are correct, it does ban the trannies and the suing is the backstop for intransigent schools.”
Wow, she got something right. And only 2 tries!
I’m not ‘upset’. I’m simply pointing out that she’s allowed to. The headline says she isn’t.
What a mishmash article!
The headline says she signed a law BANNING trannies from women’s sports teams. But the article doesn’t say that.
Then the article switches and says she signed a law allowing harmed students to sue.
Then it later is says “South Dakota’s state House also passed a bill on Tuesday that bans transgender students from using bathrooms and other sex-segregated school facilities that align with their gender identity”
THEN it says “South Dakota is the 10th state to enact a bill barring transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports”
It’s almost impossible to tell what’s going on in SD from this article.
Isn’t she the chick that was knocking boots with that Lewindowski dude?
RE: Noem signs law banning transgender athletes from female sports teams
Better late than never. She dilly dallied and made all sorts of excuses months ago.
