Me, too....Read part of it then went back to the beginning to reread...and spotted it...oh no...the BEE.
When We moved to Houston from Old Bridge,NJ back in 1969 we stayed in a hotel while Dad was at the Intergalactic Airport during construction supervising the AA section and searching for a house..
At breakfast the first morning Dad ordered Tea, Mom Coffee and myself OJ. The Waitress brings the drinks and sets down Mom’s coffee and then a glass of Iced Tea to Dad. He’s got this look on His face like WTF IS THIS!! He says I meant Hot Tea and the Waitress says I’m sorry I’ll be right back Sir. When She came back She told Us that down South you need to specifically ask for Hot Tea or your getting Iced Tea. Even at Breakfast.
The table also had a 1 hole shaker bottle that had Simple Syrup to sweeten your Iced Tea with instead of trying to get sugar to dissolve in the Iced Tea. I’ve noticed that that’s not as common as it used to be.
Just the beginning of the learning and transitions of being Yankee’s in the South. We eventually made Damned Yankee status when they realized We were staying.
Adding sugar to the unsweetened tea did not revive the man.
...I have often said that it the Union’s forces could have captured the Confederacy’s supplies of sweet tea and air conditioners, the (mis-named...) American Civil War would have been over in short order....!!!
Fake News! I’ve been drinking unsweetened tea for decades! Only problem is finding it in the Oneonta Alabama Walmart!
“OK, you had me until I saw it was The Bee.”
The Bee stings me more often than I’ll otherwise admit. Often so, it’s the National Enquirer of hard news.
I wish I liked tea more.
