Media critics are calling for Brian Stelter to be fired after failing to report the 'open secret' affair between top boss Jeff Zucker and staffer Allison Gollust.

'The network needs to step up and fire Brian Stelter,' a CNN insider tells DailyMail.com. 'He is allegedly our top media reporter - yet he failed to report on the scoop that everyone in the office knew. And if he wants to say he didn't know, he is truly terrible at his job.'

Stelter is the chief media correspondent for CNN and host of the CNN program Reliable Sources.

In a statement on Wednesday, Zucker said he was stepping down as CNN president for failing to disclose his relationship with Gollust when he was being interviewed as part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo.

He and Gollust claim the romance started during COVID, but media sources tell DailyMail.com it long predates the pandemic and was an open-secret in the CNN offices.

I agree. For him to resign so abruptly over an undisclosed consensual affair doesn't make sense - not for someone on the left. There's something far more serious going on here.
