Two Maine basketball announcers were fired by a local radio station for comments they made on a hot mic about female players.
Jim Carter and Steve Shaw were preparing to call a game on WHOU-FM's livestream while another game was going on ahead of them.
In a video posted to Twitter, you can hear either Carter and Shaw say, without realizing their microphones were on, that 'Easton has two girls out here extremely overweight. Awful.'
The other followed by asking: 'How come you don't get uniforms that fit the girls?' accompanied with derisive laughter.
Shaw - a retired athletic director who has a place in the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame as of 2021 - and Carter - a retired teacher, coach and author about high school basketball - went on to call the game but were fired immediately afterward.
Fred Grant, the owner of the station, said he fired Carter and Shaw after beginning to see complaints shortly after the comments were overheard.
'I started getting phone calls immediately,' Grant said by phone Friday morning.
Grant and the station posted an apology for what the two men - who had been broadcasting games for WHOU for about a month - had said on their website.

Just wondering...was what they were saying correct or not?
Dang, they got fired for speaking truth?
“..was what they were saying correct or not?”
Article include one pic of the game the announcers were watching. It included one very large girl standing at the free throw line. In her case at least, they were accurate.
To paraphrase the late, great Johnnie Cochran...
If the hips are wide, you must deride
If you look at the most recent team photo, there are two young ladies who appear to be obese.
Does that adversely affect their playing ability?
If not, don’t mention it.
If it does, fair game.
Dang, they got fired for speaking truth?

Hey douchebags, how are you tonight?
Hey you know what would be funny, take a picture, find any picture of your fattest female relatives. Maybe your daughter, may be a niece, maybe your mother, maybe your wife? It’s all just about speaking the truth, right? Discretion be damned.Come on guys, fess up, is your wife heffer? You think defenseless girls should be picked on so let’s walk the walk you balless pricks.
As far as I’m concerned, they were fired for bullying. Humiliating someone in front of thousands of listeners. Suicides happen that way.
Girls are all “strong” until someone calls them fat. Sheesh.
One of the best athletes in my high school looked about the size of the blurry girl in the photo. She was excellent at various sports, despite her size.
Was “awful” just about this young lady’s appearance or about how she played basketball, as well?
Always treat a gun as loaded, and treat a microphone/camera as live.
“Its worse when they’re in motion.”
Can’t hurt the fatties precious little feelings. What a bunch of mushy snowflakes where stating the obvious gets someone fired? The girls know they are fat. The students all know they are fat. The fans in the bleachers know they’re fat. OH BUT DON’T you dare say they are fat and hurt their feelings.
Hysterical. LOLOLOLOL
Yep. Nothing says “Strong Independent Woman” like being unable to cope with someone accurately pointing out when you are overweight.
Rabid Feminists are among the biggest hypocrites on earth.
When Karen Carpenter was a teenage girl, a critic described her as heavy in a concert review of her band. She wound up with anorexia and died

Yes, such a sad story. The voice of an angel.
Well, where’s a pic of these two little porkers? You report, we decide.........
Since they didn’t call the girls out by name it would be impossible to know who they were talking about. Right?
So true. We had a very large girl on my junior high swim team. She had a beer belly like an old man. The other teams used to snicker when we showed up. And then they would stand poolside gaping when she blew past everybody in the pool. She was our best swimmer and always anchored the medleys.
Well said!
