We have an attack sheltie! LOL!
The fundamental part of socialization happens from week five to seven. If they don’t get it then, they never do. And people sell or give away dogs at five weeks, all of the time. “They’re weaned.” Yeah, but that’s all they are. They don’t respond very well to commands their entire life. If they’re fixed, and docile breeds, it doesn’t much matter. Large dogs can be a nightmare. Herding and working breeds are dangerous, IMO. Failure to exercise them, and keeping multiple dogs is a recipe for disaster. I’m guessing a boarding kennel may have refused these two clients.
You should have included your excerpt in brail as well, we are talking about FR here.
Read it now it will be scrubbed from FR soon enough
Poor girl. They are a menace and should be outlawed.
Beagles? Pekinese? I am stumped.
They ate her ears and entire lower face. Like nose, lips, cheeks, chin.
I would call that catastrophic. I can’t begin to imagine the future horror she will have to endure going forward attempting recovery. Horrible doesn’t begin to describe it
So you mean there is only one species of dog? Because there are many breeds.
Pit bulls are overrepresented in shelters. They're popular here in PA but still the shelters are overloaded with them.
It is not.
PBT have never been popular. Only in the last couple decades, going along with all the other liberal wishy-washy absurdities that have come to a head since 2019, have PBTs of various stripes shown up much out in the regular neighborhoods. Because they are victims of “racism”, and misunderstood, and abused, and that’s why they’re bad. Which is liberal nonsense.
Even today, even if you see more on a regular basis, they are not as popular as might seem.
They are in the kennels not because they’re popular, but because they are a train wreck.
;-D
Good point. This no-kill nonsense has multiple problems.
We do not know they are crated all the time. Likely just for when someone like this sitter was to come over soon.
Some dogs are just bad.
There is definitely more to this story. Had they been trained to fight (illegal)? Did the dogs get to know the lady before the owners left or was she a potential unknown trespasser?
Pit bull owners insist their dogs are NEVER dangerous. Home owner’s insurance companies ask if you have any dogs, and if “yes” they want to know which breed you have. Some insurance companies will NOT insure you if you own pit bulls.
Pits are ugly and dangerous. The only reason to have one is to show people, look at what I got
There probably isn’t more to this story. A pit is dangerous. Anything could set them off.
Socialization and human bonding are the reasons I have never gotten a dog from anyone but an AKC recommended breeder/kennel with a good reputation-especially since I am not into small dogs-I love the large guarding/working breeds-and I don’t care that they are on the bad dog list-that just means they must be properly trained and taken care of from the beginning so they are a well-adjusted pet and not a psychotic monster-I buy only a puppy 8-9 weeks old that knows what indoors is and has been played with by kids and socialized with adults and other animals-especially cats-no adult dogs.
I only have one dog at a time, and they are a member of the family pack-but I’m the alpha and I make sure they know that-since my cub was a baby, I have had 4 dog companions-2 German Shepherds, a Chow and a Siberian Husky. They all protected the family-including “their” cats-but I never had a biting/threatening incident with a neighbor or other guest-my dogs were never outdoors unsupervised-even though I always have a fenced yard-especially the Husky was an escape artist, and this is the country where the mountain lions and coyotes just love pets as fast food. My dogs were never put in a kennel and were indoors whenever I was and always at night-they were our loved companions-all died of old age-the last one, my Husky girl was nearly 18-it has been several years, but I still miss her...
these sound poorly socialized and trained-and not appropriate dogs for the owners-sounds like they were more fashion accessories than pets-look, look at me-I have these cool dogs...
