China provides open-minded Western actors a refreshing career alternative to sluggish Hollywood and does not “get enough credit” for vast improvements in film production, Kevin Lee, a British actor working in China for a decade, told Breitbart News.
Lee encouraged Americans, and Westerners generally, to give Chinese films a chance, arguing that they present much more nuance than the publicity they get overseas.
Lee has worked as British, American, and other Western characters necessary to tell Chinese stories during his time in the country, receiving airtime in increasingly high-profile blockbusters as the Chinese film industry has become a bigger player in global filmmaking. Lee most recently starred in The Battle at Lake Changjin, the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time and the number two highest grossing film of 2021 anywhere in the world.
Lee will also feature in the upcoming film Sharpshooter (sometimes translated as Snipers), directed by legendary Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou. Zhang – once a pariah over his brutal anti-communist film To Live (now banned in the country) and violations of the now-defunct “one child policy” – has become one of the Chinese Communist Party’s favorite directors, set to return to directing the Olympics Opening Ceremonies next month.
Sharpshooter and Lake Changjin are both war films told from a Chinese perspective. As they are set in the Korean War, the enemies are the U.S. government; the heroes are the Chinese soldiers whose sacrifices make the existence of North Korea, arguably the most repressive regime in the world, possible today. The film depicts Mao Zedong, responsible for at least 45 million deaths, as a fatherly, thoughtful leader pained by the sacrifices of his soldiers.

Arguably the worst mass murderer in history.
It's a paying gig, nothing more.
Apparently, when open conflict with the Chinese communists finally erupts, we’ll have to battle our own elites as well.
Never heard of him.
It’s his job to promote the film-get it? To the easily impressionable it’s up to the MSM to report. At least it’s out there.

It's why, for most of human history, actors were regarded as nothing more than prostitutes. Maybe not even as noble or useful as prostitutes.
Ping
Actually, it can be said that title belongs to Rachel Carson.
She set in motion a chain of events that led to the banning of DDT, followed by 50 million excess malaria deaths in Africa.
Sadly many US politicians and CEO’s feel exactly the same way.
Good point. And she was greatly assisted by the EPA and other idiots around the world and it continues to this day.
I don’t always have a choice about whether or not to buy a Red Chinese product, but I do have a real opportunity to say no to the cultural offerings. Down the two-holer with this crap.
The book to read on this topic is “East of Chosin” by Roy Appleman.
“Lee encouraged Americans, and Westerners generally, to give Chinese films a chance”
If they are on pare with the rest of the low quality products that china produces NO THANKS.
How much would Kevin Lee charge to play Hitler as a kindly yet misunderstood gentleman? I’m guessing his fee would be quite reasonable.
Kevin Lee, a British actor working in China as a influencer in a white monkey job gets lots of under the table cash, tours, expensive foods and gifts, as well as all the sex partners he can handle.
Rachel Carson, the mother of fake science. Her foolish ideas are indeed responsible for millions of deaths, but only because governments embraced them rather than rejected them out of hand.
He is basically their Walter Duranty.
