Hold off on the official Tom Brady tributes. For now.

According to Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians, Brady hasn’t yet informed the organization he’s retiring.

“No, he hasn’t that we know of,” Arians told the Tampa Bay Times. “Agent [Don Yee] just told us he hasn’t made up his mind.”

Brady called Buccaneers GM Jason Licht to inform him he has not made up his mind, according to the report.

I used to think he was a good coach but in the last year hes proven himself to be a raging jerk.

I assume that you are referring to Arians. Being a good coach doesn’t translate into being outstanding at all other things—I think that in Saban’s case it likely inhibits his judgment in a manner that seems calculated to enhance himself as an effective coach if being effective involves winning rather than shaping the whole character.

I’ve largely ceased to care about most people involved with the NFL (or sports in general), but have some vestigial interest in Brady, and more in Saban and Alabama. Generally those at the highest level of most things are very good at what they do and at best mediocre, and usually worse, at everything else.

If he is retiring then Tampa’s brief moment of glory is over. I can’t imagine Gronkowski would want to stay, either, if Brady leaves.

Hes scheduled to receive a $15 million dollar bonus on February 4th.

Hes not retiring until after then, if at all.

Could be disinformation from the Buccaneers?????

They’re the ones to benefit most from an early retirement.

Stephen Breyer was pushed.

Tom wants to be nominated for the Supreme Court even if he has to dress up like a black woman. I mean, who would vote not to confirm?

I figured this was the case because the same thing was done to Breyer.

Fairly soon, the Blue Privilege Elite will simply announce when each of us is “retiring” as a signal that they are done with out public influence.

We will be swamped by public expectations if departure.

Huh. Well this will be a lot of fuss over nothing if it turns out he's coming back next season.

If Brady retires Gronk will follow and with cap issues TB is facing an almost total rebuild. And Arians will leave too.

Like Brady is going to tell him when he’s retiring... He’d call Belichick before he called Arians. There are reports that they didn’t exactly get along all that well, and Arians was just lucky to be there to witness Brady win his last Super Bowl.

Yup... Because they’ll have no QB... And NFL teams perform so much better when they don’t have a QB to win games for them.

Hope Brady doesn’t retire just to make the press look stupid once again.

Saban is bad at politics in terms of advancing the common good. There are worse people at climbing on top of soap box and spouting nonsense, but he should know better.

However, I was speaking in generalities. If you look over many of the most hyper-developed pro-Athletes, I doubt you would want your daughter marrying them. Better someone from the assembly line.
