Why Do The Brits Keep the Falkland Islands? My Idea.

Posted on 01/29/2022 7:57:26 AM PST by DIRTYSECRET

3,000 people live there-middle of nowhere-expensive to maintain. The last war over the place cost the Limeys $500k per person to save. They're keeping it just to prove a point. Think Guantanamo without credible threats to change. Now the Brits have cut down their military where another rescue mission would be impossible. All this based on principle. At this point any 'solution' to this dilemma will not happen without the bigger issue of 'saving face'. There is a way out and it will have to involve the US.

Uh, just drop off a boat load of 300 soldiers and they can take the island. Not much to it.

Ronald Reagan had nothing to do with the giveaway of the Panama Canal, that was Jimmy Carter.

The UK turns the islands over to the United States for 99 years-similar to what the Brits had with Hong Kong. At the end of the 99 years Argentina gets control.

Not seeing how this is any of our business. UK, Argentina need to figure it out. We do not need to get in the middle of any more conflicts.

Its culturally, linguistically, historically British.

Not that deep state globalist lizards in London, DC and elsewhere care about that any longer though

At this point, its strategic. If Argentina controlled it, one corrupt government or another would probably lease it to China for a nice big payment.

*If they keep Hirono, it’s a bonus.* You can have a beer with me ANYTIME.Heh heh.

*Why bring this subject up?* It’s Saturday.
There is just a little bit of lefty in me. The rats are always looking for a problem to bring up out of nowhere. Example-one black councilwoman had a ‘problem’ with the last half of Arnold’s name-election year. So we light a fire under their asses by calling for indigenous control of Hawaii. Altruism right? Not if you ask the lefties, even those in Honolulu.

Just look at their call for restoring the felon vote. Doing the right thing or getting more rat votes? Good luck dealing with them on Election Day. They’d have to bribe them-illegal. There was once a reason liquor stores were closed on election day. The conditions will return.

The Brits may have cut back on their military, but so has Argentina. Any attempt at Falklands War 2.0 would end disastrously for Argentina. There is also the fact that the Brits have no reason to turn the Falklands and their British inhabitants over to the rule of a senile puppet.

Yep. The Argentine junta proved exactly why the British government won’t hand their subjects over to a country with an unstable government and a history of murdering its own citizens.

The UK turns the islands over to the United States

You ignore that the islands are populated by Brits. They're not going to turn them over.

Actually, the locals are quite content being under British rule. I believe the British government has offered them their independence but they declined.

Less than 10 years ago, in fact:

2013 Falklands Islands Sovereignty Referendum

"Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom?"

Yes: 1,513 (99.8%)
No: 3 (0.20%)
Invalid/blank: 2 (0.13%)

Turnout: 92%

International observers reported that the referendum to be free and fair.

Las Malvinas son Argentinas my ass.

*Falklands belong to the United Kingdom and if you don’t like it then it sucks to be you.* I do believe another fight will be more expensive. I’m just trying to help out* I enjoy your disagreements. It allows me to correct you.

*Ronald Reagan had nothing to do with the giveaway of the Panama Canal, that was Jimmy Carter.* There you go again. I used the term giveaway in quotes. RR had everything to do with the conversation.

*British need the Faulklands as a naval base to operate in the South Atlantic(WW2).* We have the Monroe Doctrine. Good for more than those 99 years.

*British government won’t hand their subjects over to a country with an unstable* The subjects number 3k-not worth it. They’ll have 99 years to figure it out. I say let the British population there ‘wither on the vine’.

“Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom?”
Harriet Tubman(who freed 1,000 slaves) “I couda saved 2,00 if they knew they were slaves”.

Voting no is like defunding the police-get it?

*Turnout: 92%* Nothin’ else there to do. No need for mail-in or absentee.

I think you need therapy. First, the Panama Canal was given away by Jimmy Carter with affirmation by the Senate. Reagan had nothing to do with it. Second, the giveaway was a disaster as the Chinese now run the Canal. Third, why this vanity? It’s British territory and the people want it that way. Fourth, it’s not your business.

That is the dumbest, weakest, essay on international relations that I have ever read.

First, the UK is a nuclear power and Argentina is not. Furthermore, all that the UK has to do is declare that an attack on the Falkland Islands will result in attacks on Argentina itself and that should calm the waters.

About 70 per cent are of British descent, primarily as a result of Scottish and Welsh immigration to the islands.[14]

Why don’t you double check on which president signed the Panama Canal treaty and get back to us.

My solution: The UK turns the islands over to the United States for 99 years-similar to what the Brits had with Hong Kong.

The next Democrat president could immediately turn it over to the Argentineans just like Carter gave away the Panama Canal. Nothing would be gained by this.
