It’s becoming easier and easier to adopt a plant-based diet. Along with more ways to make fruits and vegetables delicious, there’s no shortage of meatless fish, chicken nuggets, beloved fast food burgers, even whole restaurant concepts dedicated to plant-based eats. While the introduction of some of these items leaves us scratching our heads, wondering if the arguments for sustainable meatless eating are even possible under our broken food system, the good news is that such developments continue to normalize vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.
So, what’s stopping people from ditching meat for good? Talker reports that taste may be the number-one factor. In a poll of 2,000 Americans (commissioned by vegan cheese brand Violife), 17% of respondents said they had tried a plant-based diet but couldn’t keep it up, citing lack of flavor and not enough options as the top deterrents. Some also pointed to social and familial pressures, saying it was much harder to maintain a vegan or vegetarian diet when those around them were sticking to meat and cheese. Peer pressure truly never goes away.
Still, there seems to be a widespread interest in trying to incorporate at least some vegan and vegetarian practices into daily life. Of those surveyed, half said they were curious about trying out a plant-based diet, with 75% saying they would rather pick and choose some plant-based options rather than going “all in” on the lifestyle. On average, folks who tried out veganism and vegetarianism fully stuck to it for three months.
Health seems to be the top motivating factor for switching up eating habits (even though the survey also shows that 63% of people eat whatever they want and don’t give a hoot about health factors—very relatable).

Because eating meat is good for you and I want to.
I don’t want to go meatless.
Lack of flavor? How about highly processed? That shit will kill you. But who cares as long as we are saving the planet.
It’s hard to get the umami flavors without meat, but possible. Mushrooms have it. Miso soup has it. Lentil soup. But the list is short.
So bring on the meat !
Because God made man an omnivore.
“last night brother chastised me, “yeah I know you don’t put beans in chili”
Ain’t putting beans in chili a hanging offense in most of the state?
Texas is touchy about it’s chili and barbeque. Don’t ask how I know. : / )
if they can produce a fruit that is full of wagyu steaks, i will go meatless
Nothing lab grown either....
Right. It must have a face.
Why would I want to go to a plant-based diet? I’m an omnivore.
Like EVs, plant-based food is a fad, and both will end in time.
Flavor and texture.
In the 70s, out of curiosity, I bought a packet of ‘breakfast ham-like’ stuff. It was made out of plants. It sort of smelled like ham and even tasted somewhat like ham, but the texture was stringy. It was more expensive than the real thing.
I never bought a 2nd package and I have never bought a meat-like-from-plants item since.
dey got all kinds of wierd rules like everyplace, but its easy to figure out.
no damn sweet tea!!
Meat is healthy. In moderation, and if it’s grass-fed.
I can eat what humans have eaten since the first one existed, or I can eat an over processed glob of who knows what attempting to taste like meat.
No thanks...
Lost several people (died early) due to their ‘vegetarian’ lifestyle, so no thanks. Until AOC takes away my meat, I’ll continue to eat it, lots of it.
Vegan cheese.
Before covid, our small office would have pizza brought in for special occasions. One of the employees is a vegan, and had a vegan pizza with vegan cheese. At the end of the meeting, there wasn’t anything left but this pizza. Against my better judgement, I tried it. My response was, “I’d rather die than have to eat this the rest of my life.”
1. Bacon
2. Smoked Brisket
3. Venison sausage
4. Porterhouse steak
5. Muskrat saddles
OK, I’ll take back the Muskrat.
“If we weren’t supposed to eat animals, why would they be made of meat?”
Nothing much has changed....
Still overpriced, Still easy to tell the textural differences, and as much as they try to tell you it tastes the same, it doesn’t.... not as bad tasting as it used to be, but only people who want be fooled into thinking it tastes and feels just like the real thing believe that.
Also, anyone claiming this slop is “healthier” is dumber than an Biden voter.... The more processed a food is, no matter what it started out as, is always, always, always less healthy for you than a less processed or unprocessed food.... and there is NOTHING more processed in the food supply than this faux meat.
Just because it starts as vegetables doesn’t mean what comes out the other end is remotely as healthy... because this slop is not.
