The NFL has long been under fire for its lack of diversity at the head coaching position. And from the looks of this year’s head coaching cycle so far, that won’t be changing anytime soon.
On Thursday, multiple reports indicated that Green Bay OC Nathaniel Hackett, who is white, is set to become the next head coach of the Denver Broncos.
During today’s episode of First Take, ESPN figurehead Stephen A. Smith said this hire was “sickening” and “insulting” to see as a Black man.
The Broncos moved past Eric Bieniemy as a head coaching option earlier this week. Smith argued that Chiefs OC, who is Black, has a better resume than Hackett.

Back in the day Smith was an occasional guest on Mark Levin's radio show and he seemed rather sane and logical and not a race obsessed maniac. He has not been on Mark's show in quite some time...

SF hired Mike Singletary, in part because he was black. Look how that worked out for them.
Every hiring season the sports powers-that-be throw out the same names - Eric Bieenemy, Todd Bowles, Byron Leftwich - yet they don’t get hired. Only thing I can think of is (1) they don’t interview very well and (2) maybe they are not head coach material. I mean we are long past the point where an NFL owner would not hire a man who could turn his team into a wiinner just because he’s black.

Smith should look in a mirror if he really wants to see something “sickening” and “insulting.”
Maybe he does have a better resume. Maybe there is something else missing.
Maybe they don’t want to wait until the Chiefs are out of the playoffs and want their coach to have the most time to assemble a coaching staff and prepare for the draft.
That was a disaster. Just like my Washington Huskies and Ty Willingham and Jimmy Lake. Like it or not, some people do not have the disposition or ability to be a head coach. They might be fantastic assistants, but being a head coach is a different universe.
And it has nothing to do with skin color. The Huskies had a few coaches with white skin who did not do well either. But people like Smith see one thing: skin color. That is what is sickening and disgusting.

By Smith’s racist reasoning, the NFL should use a strict quota system for black head coaches. Adult black males comprise approximately 3% of the U.S. population. The NFL currently has one black head coach. That equates to 1/32nd of all NFL head coaches, or 3%. The NFL need not, nor should not, hire another black head coach at this time.
All pro sports should apply Smith’s racism to its coaching staffs and player rosters, limiting black participation to no more than 3%.
