Los Angeles-area homeless encampment near Super Bowl site cleared after reports of fires set

A Los Angeles-area homeless encampment near the venue slated to host Super Bowl LVI was cleared out Tuesday after reports of people setting fires in the area.

The California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, said the encampment near SoFi Stadium in Inglewood needed to be cleared because of a fire safety issue. The venue will host the NFL's annual championship affair on Feb. 13.

"Caltrans’ responsibility is to ensure the safety of the traveling public and to protect and maintain California’s highway infrastructure," a Caltrans statement said. "The department is coordinating with local partners to provide outreach and support including Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA)."

The agency told Fox News that the encampment was located near the Century Boulevard on-ramp to the busy northbound Interstate 405.

A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol told Fox News there were reports of people setting fires in the area.

Caltrans posted a notice at the site on Jan. 20 in advance of the cleanup to allow people who were staying to gather their things, it said. The agency also provided them with information on services they can take advantage of.

The agency said it collected any personal belongings left behind and will bring them to a maintenance yard so the items can be retrieved later.

The cleanup came days before Sunday's NFC Championship Game between the Los Angeles Rams, which shares the stadium with the Los Angeles Chargers, and the San Francisco 49ers.

Take them down to the train tracks. Lots of merch there.

It’s obvious to even the dumbest of the dumb that Newsome can’t have pictures of his immigrants shown to the world. The DimWITS want this for the whole country.

But the DimWIT voters can’t see it until later when their vote doesn’t count anymore.

CA and LA should showcase the homeless problem they created by letting 500 of them set up all around the sidelines.

“WE DID THAT”

This is sort of like when they herded all the homeless out of the vicinity of the Clinton presidential lie-brary in Little Rock before it opened.

this simply demonstrates that the authorities can easily clear out gaggles of squatters on public land whenever they have the desire to do so... which means of course that the other 99% of the time, the authorities desire to leave the public squatters in place to ruin the quality of life of those citizens who work, pay taxes, don’t take street rugs, take care of their families, and otherwise are responsible folk ...

Removing the homeless before the cameras show up is a routine event in California, especially Hollywood.

Every star on Hollywood Boulevard was a toilet up to the evening before a new ceremony.

Well they’ll just move them into the brand new condo apartments the Governor just built with covid funds for the homeless.

Silly me, I thought the 49ers played in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Sure you can move them out for a day and threaten with longer jail but they will simply go to another place. That is the policy in most of the nation so we have a revolving population of mentally ill homeless wandering the country looking for a place to exist.

People don’t simply disappear in civilized nations. If you did attempt to imprison all the homeless, it would only make them more violent and cost several times more than housing. Even without doing this, we already have one of the largest percent of prison populations on earth.

So many sick people in the streets is a symptom of a greater spiritual illness. It can only change once the majority of the nation comes to a greater understanding of what it means to be human and we come to a spiritual turning point...

“mentally ill homeless”

95% of whom are also alcoholics and drug addicts who’ve permanently burned their brains out and are irretrievably lost to humanity ... no amount of “treatment” will bring back that destroyed brain function ...

Alarmed citizen: "There were fires?!"

Fox News: "There were reports of fires."

Alarmed citizen: "So no fires?"

Fox News: "We are reporting that there were reports of fires."

Of course the mentally ill ware more likely to become addicts which often makes the situation worse. Especially without family or community.

The solution has to come long before they are addicts and homeless. There are too many mentally ill young people who find no support or relief for their issues until too late. Of course they easily turn to drugs and alcohol to numb these untreated issues with some losing their minds.

Even if you somehow could prohibit all drugs/alcohol, the mentally ill would simply abuse more toxic everyday substances like aerosols, solvents and gases to numb themselves. Which destroy the mind even more than even the worst street drugs. The solution MUST address why these people are willing to harm themselves in the first place. Mentally healthy and supported people do not huff paints or gasoline
