LOUISVILLE, Ky., Saturday, Jan. 25.
The report which has prevailed that Col. FRY was killed is false.
The wounds of Lieut. BURT and Col. MCCOOK are not serious.
WETMORE's Battery, attached to the Twelfth Brigade, Gen. CARTER, did most essential service in the field, and in front of the enemy's intrenchments.
On Sunday evening, the rebels in retreating burned four gun-carriages at Monticello, but their cannon and guns are scattered all over their track.
Gen. THOMAS' forces have not yet been heard from. It is supposed that he will occupy Monticello.
Louisville, Ky., Friday, Jan. 21.
The bodies of Gen. ZOLLICOFFER and BAILLIN REYTON, Jr., are in process of embalming at Somerset.
All is quiet below.
Correspondence of the Times.
SOMERSET, Monday Evening, Jan. 20, 1862.
Fearing that I would not be able to telegram to you, on account of the "embargo," I have taken a few moments of time to write to you, and give you a few moments of the great victory over the forces under CRITTENDEN and ZOLLICOFFER. At 7 o'clock, A.M., on Sunday morning, the enemy drove in the pickets of the Tenth Indiana, stationed at the forks of the road, eight miles from Somerset, at Logan's cross-roads.
The Tenth were immediately drawn up in line, and moved into the woods, where they were immediately met by the enemy, six thousand strong, who instantly opened upon them. Gen. THOMAS immediately ordered up the Ninth Ohio, Second Minnesota, and Fourth Kentucky to the support of the Tenth Indiana, the father holding the enemy in check nearly one half hour before being reinforced. The First and Second Tennessee were ordered up on the right wing for the purpose of outflanking the enemy. STANDART and WHITMORE's batteries were in the meantime engaged in shelling the enemy in the woods.
