The killing of two Canadians at a resort on Mexico’s Caribbean coast last week was motivated by debts between international gangs apparently dedicated to drug and weapons trafficking, according to a senior Mexican prosecutor.
“The investigations indicate that this attack was motivated by debts that arose from transnational illegal activities that the victims participated in,” said Oscar Montes, the chief prosecutor of the Quintana Roo state, on Tuesday. “The information [is] that they were involved in weapons and drug trafficking, among other crimes.”

Mexican “Domestic Violent Extremists”
I would never go to Mexico. However, if I did, it would not be to the bars. Nothing ever good happens in bars in third world countries.
Agreed. I won’t go there either, although it was a great place to go on a three day weekend when I was in college (1983-1987).
If memory serves, it was 8,000 pesos to the dollar. I’d go down with my roommates to Rosarita Beach (south of TJ) with $40 each. Drink lots of beers and fresh seafood all weekend long and then come back to school Sunday night with $5 still in my pocket.
The Canadians were convicted felons!
Umm, welchers don’t do to well with organized crime.
There are criminals in Canada? Must be American expats.
Canadians go to Cancun for a drug deal? Believable.
Mexicans lying about drug deal to avoid publicizing cartel murders of innocent tourists? Equally believable.
Drugs deals in Mexico are everywhere. Lying government is everywhere. That’s what the media and government have created. Everything is suspect. Nothing can be trusted.
Ohhhh but I’ve had some good fun in 3rd world bars (wink wink)
I’m sure you did. :)
I probably could have had fun when I was in the Philippines, but I made sure all my entertainment was clean and upstanding.
I didn’t need one of those drive by shootings you hear on occasion.
Hell yeah.
I was also early 20’s and put myself in really stupid situations all the time… especially in Mexico, but lots of other countries too. Oddly enough, I woke up thinking about one of those situations this morning, Matamoros, Mexico. A horrible dump and extremely violent place. Sure as hell wouldn’t want my kids doing it!
