My 98-yr-old Mom uses a Chromebook many hours a day for social media, video calls with family, sending greeting cards, etc. and it's been a godsend. She was a Windows user for decades, but we couldn't deal with constantly fixing Windows remotely. ChromeOS has been wonderfully stable and safe for her.

I got a very low-end HP Chromebook as a "gift" for listening to a 30-minute sales spiel on Google Cloud a few years ago. It's a useful ultra-portable, halfway between my MacBook (a real computer) and my iPad (tablet).

*ShadowAce* Not mentioned in the article is that you can download and run a Linux OS environment on a Chromebook, in a VM/container. It's a Debian (Ubuntu-ish) distro and really quite good. Having that running Bash sessions on the same desktop as the other ChromeOS applications is pretty cool.

I don't use ChromeOS much, but it's handy for the things I use it for.
