A psychiatrist who has analyzed National Health Service data in the United Kingdom is warning that older users of marijuana are triggering a huge surge in demand for mental health services.
The Christian Institute explained Dr. Tony Rao confirmed an "astonishing" 777% increase in people over the age of 55 accessing those mental health services "due to addition to the Class B drug…"
Rao cited statistics from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities which confirmed the number of over-55s at treatment for cannabis addiction was 374 in 2005-06. The most recent statistics, from 2020-21, revealed 3,279 cases.
He explained, "It is still regarded as a recreational drug with little awareness of the harm associated with its use. … There is a cohort of people over the age of 55 who grew up in quite a permissive culture with a lack of harm awareness of substances."
Now, those users were moving into the mental health service programs with problems including depressing and anxiety from their cannabis addictions.
The support group Marijuana Anonymous said in a report in the U.K. Times that it had seen a surge in those "older" users at its meetings. Their "prolonged use," the report said, "has created more mental health issues and I think we can correlate that with the influx of older people seeking help..."

My home town legalized the sale off cannabis for recreational purposes. It was a Trainwreck.

However much pot a conservative may smoke, she’s still going to be saner than a leftwad douche rocket. Before I form an opinion on this, I want to know how many of those treated are leftists, and were therefore mentally unbalanced before they ever smoked.
Long term drinking destroys brain tissue,(’’wet brain’’; take a look at Ozzy Osbourne) destroys the liver, burns out the esophageal lining, and can lead to pancreatitis , fetal alcohol syndrome among other things.
According to a study done years ago the Justice Department
did a survey and fount that almost 65% of violent offenders who committed sexual assault, domestic violence, armed robbery, manslaughter and murder were under the influence of alcohol during the commission of these crimes.
Defending the results of alcohol use is a fool’s errand.

In their defense, MJ could be “laced” with other substances; unfortunately, it’s no different from today...
It has a much higher THC level. You develop a resistance over time that requires more THC so you resort to gimmicks like THC oil. Any dormant mental health issues just got kicked into high gear
You haven’t tried the stuff I grew last summer. It smells nice, probably due to that molasses treatment it got before harvest. It’s all in the feeding. The cheap skunkweed people get today was probably grown using night soil.

I have COPD now, anyway. The pot didn’t cause it. It’s all good, though.

I don’t really use it. I just grow it. My wife’s BFF has cancer (surgery on Thursday) so we are coming up with a possible vape situation for her.
It is known that THC can cause schizophrenia/psychosis in some people, it has been known for years, even in people who are NOT genetically predisposed to psychosis. It’s a low risk, but it’s a risk. No one should be surprised that the more openly this drug is used, that more mental health problems are developed.
“Cannabis and schizophrenia/psychosis have a close relationship. We have evidence suggesting that cannabis use, primarily THC in cannabis, in genetically predisposed or at-risk populations, leads to earlier diagnosis of psychosis/schizophrenia. This tells us that THC in cannabis has a small causative effect on schizophrenia. THC in cannabis also makes schizophrenia and psychosis symptoms worse and causes more relapses and hospitalizations. Neuroimaging studies show the detrimental effect of cannabis on brain morphology, especially adolescent brains. Recent trials in therapeutic CBD use are showing its alleviating effect on positive symptoms of schizophrenia and its opposing effect on THC, which warrants further research. Although CBD shows therapeutic potential, there is still more harm from cannabis than benefits, and adolescent cannabis usage should be discouraged at all costs. We still need more extensive studies for more detailed data about cannabis and its effects.”

Duh. Being constantly stoned means your brain is running in a defective state...and pot still affects your brain chemistry for weeks or months after smoking.
Indeed worked with a few of them some conversations didn’t have any dots.
Don't take it personally ... cannabis probably won't help you.
