The danger of the momentum behind N95 respirators
The Blaze ^ | January 20, 2022 | DANIEL HOROWITZ

The Biden administration plans to distribute millions of them to local pharmacies. But is there really any evidence that the same people who were wrong about masks are now suddenly connected to God’s word when it comes to respirators? And who says it is safe for people to wear something like that for long periods of time, which until now required rigorous testing, medical exams, and training?

Yes, N95s, unlike masks, actually meet the standard for PPE in hazardous environments. But for which sort of hazard? Not an airborne respiratory virus. Stephen Petty, a certified industrial hygienist and hazardous exposure expert, sent me a copy of an N95 usage label made by 3M that he enlarged into an infographic. It turns out the company's own disclosure blows up the myth of using an N95 for viral protection.

The label confirms what everyone understood prior to the mask mania of COVID: Neither masks nor N95 respirators can stop aerosols, certainly not viral ones, which are much smaller than bacteria. What's truly revealing is that the label recommends against relying on them for source protection even against asbestos particles, which are on average 5 microns – 50 times larger than SARS-CoV-2 virions.

A large randomized controlled trial published just months before the discovery of SARS-CoV-2 — before masking became a political and social control tool — showed no benefit to N95s over surgical masks in terms of protection against the flu. "Among outpatient health care personnel, N95 respirators vs medical masks as worn by participants in this trial resulted in no significant difference in the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza," concluded the authors of the large trial, published in JAMA on Sept. 3, 2019.

Also, remember, that most people are not wearing sealed N95s.

“If they aren’t fit tested, they are worthless.”

Nonsense. Even if they aren’t fitted, they can still signal your virtue.

Even with all of the safety precautions, we had to pee in a cup on a regular basis to check for mercury poisoning.

I don’t mind wearing a mask to enter a doctor’s office, etc. but down deep inside I know they are more or less useless. The ONLY way they might help is if somebody sneezes right in your face and you replace it immediately without touching the cloth.

Even I have to laugh at some of the masks I see on people’s faces while they think they are protected. They are thin cloth worn below their noses while gaping at every edge.

I sewed about 100 to give away when this all first started but mine were double thicknesses with pockets for filter material and the way I put the ear loops on pulled the cloth tighter around the face. I even put nose clamps in them. The hospitals that were asking for them had certain standards. If I gave one to an individual, instead of a medical person, I warned them to get something better as soon as they could. This was when they were required but nobody could find any commercially made. The hospitals and doctor’s offices wanted them to wear over the medical masks for more protection.

Now that we know more, we know that it wasn’t as deadly as we were told. People work in environments a lot more deadly than covid.

I was in the military. We had Nuclear / Biological / Chemical (NBC) Warfare training, rules etc. I can just imagine what would have happened if I had gone out to the flightline, during an exercise in NBC, wearing an N95 mask. No gloves, suit, covers, no procedures to put it on/off, no showers....just assume an N95 mask protected me from biological warfare.

It would have resulted in such a massive fail! Our squadron had pressure doors, showers, etc built in.

Taught OSHA HazMat classes for years and have fit tested thousands of people as part of those classes. I’ve also developed PPE programs for a number of companies. Bottom line paper or N95, neither will protect you from a viral aerosol. The mask mandates are the perfect example of government incompetence. It’s not about public health and never has been.

OSHA requires a pulmonary function test if you are going to wear a respirator for work. N95 masks are considered respirators.

Ding-ding-ding! My wife and sister-in-law have worked or still work in the health care field and if you are not fitted and use proper techniques in putting the N95 on and off you are wasting your time just like you did with the surgical/cloth masks.

Our suits were bright Gumby Green. When I was an IC, I got to have a red stipe on my hard hat.

I HATED those things. Seemed we always had an acid tank fail in August. Never in January.

And the full Silkwood showers were fun. On joker put on an orange thong for the shower. In the parking lot. In full view of the Cracker barrel parking lot. Yeah, the Plant Manager got calls.

Still, I miss it in some ways. Thou Must Have Thou Crap Together to Play with HAZMAT.

Bitter or bananas?

I went to bitter, since you can fake not smelling and tasting bananas.

When this madness started, some of my old crew was calling me to scream that “These fools are wearing hankies and think it will protect them!”

And I almost got kicked out for walmart for wearing a N100 with Charcoal filter (old Hazmat stuff in my truck) since it wasn’t “Approved by Fauci”.

So, YOU contributed to the tyranny? Thanks for confessing it. When the Nuremberg-style trials begin (and it will happen), you better hope people have forgotten that you materially assisted the global medical-fascist tyrants.

I’ve still got me old 3M half face with asbestos filter down in the basement with an extra Tyvex suit. I’ve told people it’s like putting chicken wire in your front door as a screen and then wondering why you have mosquitos in the house. But I wouldn’t want to be accused of being a science denier by questioning Saint Antonio de Fauci.

Yep, had a complete physical every year, and no facial hair unless you’re wearing a positive pressure unit.
