Now Switzerland will surely be the same!
Their grid will be devoid of all volts and amps...absolute zero no electrons moving...all of them sucked out to power their EVs.
Making watches in the dark or by the light of the luminous dials.
Hydo Power.
Short distances.
Really going to be some gamechanger EV’s in another year or two from various companies.. 450-500 range and fast charging.
Eventually the roads will need to be paid for. Will be fun when the owners get their bill.
Sure, the future of places where range is not an issue. If I lived in an urban area, my second car would be an electric.
For some perspective, West Virginia is bigger than Switzerland.
Not that many will be able to afford EVs.
If what I have been reading is correct, used EVs do not sell. That means that in a few short years Switzerland is going to have a used EV recycling problem. There could possibly be a decent money making opportunity here for the person who figures out how to successfully recycle lithium based batteries.
pros
quiet
a lot of maintenance disappears
cheaper for now in terms of fuel cost
can be cleaner but depends on what generates the electricity
cons
range anxiety
initially more expensive
refuelling takes longer sometimes a lot longer
extreme temps reduce range and energy even more
can blow up
All the cons won’t stop evs from advancing regardless though.
Switzerland isn’t even the first country to have this happen. Norway was the same IIRC some years ago.
Switzerland has a lot of mountains.
Mountains have a lot of waterfalls.
Convert waterfalls to electric power plants.
And voila Switzerland has a lot of electricity.
The same is true for Norway.
This is how Swiss people think about driving distance. They fly to and land in New York, you are in Kansas. They call and ask about driving to see you for lunch.
Trying to relate Switzerland to the rest of the world is useless. It’s like comparing Connecticut driving to Texas. Just no relation other than in the eyes of the advocate
The problem with Tesla is the quality control isn’t great and if something breaks it could take weeks to fix it, because Tesla isn’t in the business of Repairing cars, it’s in the business of making new cars.
Everyone who buys a Tesla has a back up gas powered car.
We have a million more people in Michigan than Switzerland we have, um, er, a couple of dozen people driving electrics - unless they have to as part of their jobs, paid for by their marketing companies, government, who fight over the two charging stations in small lefty enclaves or university staffs and wear 3 masks and have gotten four vaccinations or so by now. (Some even have their 2022 mail-in ballot already)

Size difference: United States vs Switzerland

Switzerland is about double the size of Los Angeles. Add in the mountains where you cannot drive and much smaller still.
