The Mystery of the Missing Cel-Ray
The vegetable soda is a cult favorite at Jewish delis. But in late 2021, it was suddenly impossible to find.

I would try it once, but I can’t imagine really enjoying a fizzy celery flavour.

Cloying and vegetal all at once, it cuts through bites of fatty pastrami and corned beef with every sip. When it comes to Cel-Ray, if you know, you know.

Oh I have had Cel-ray. When I lived in Florida you could find it in grocery stores like Winn-Dixie, thanks to Florida’s large Jewish community. Now you’re going to make me miss it, here in Kentucky.

Never heard of Cel-Ray but will try to find some. Like you, I like celery, can’t go a day without it. Chopped fine in an omelet, big pieces in soup, etc. Don’t like peanut butter or anything else in it. I was amazed to learn that many people don’t like it.

We’ve enjoyed Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda, but never have seen Cel-Ray to even try it.

I’ve never tried celery soda but I’ll give it a shot if I see it. One celery product that I know I like is celery salt. If you like Chicago dogs then you like celery salt.

Yep, top to bottom celery is wonderful. Unfortunately it’s one of the “dirty dozen” veggies with a huge pesticide load. Buy only organic whenever possible.
