First heard of burgoo reading Tristan Jones epic sea adventures. Apparently it was a staple of seamen for a couple of centuries back in the age of sail, a thin cut above hard tack that had to be an acquired taste being a pudding of oatmeal and mashed up whatever fish was at hand.
