Horned Toad:

I first saw these in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia.
Thought it was a baby dinosaur.

Horned toads are also found on Sullivans Island and the Isle of Palms in South Carolina. There had always been an army post on Sullivans Island to defend Charleston. Sometime in the 19th century some soldiers from a western post were transferred there and brought their pet horned toads with them. Some escaped and have been on the island ever since.

Horny Toads

There used to be a pair of old box turtles that would emerge
from the woods and mate in my backyard under this specific
large azalea bush. Last week in May, every year like clockwork.
This went on for may years. Box turtles can get very old.

Makes sense - because it was always when the azalea bush was blooming.
'Turtle Romance' ya know.

But when you watch how clumsily box turtles mate, you realize
how amazing it is that the species has survived so long.

Never had a White’s Tree Frog. I have a pair of Eastern Spotted Newts, who are cuter than cute.
